My old man hit me with one of those when I was in the process of being expelled from school. Made a bit of a clanging sound, too  :w00t:

I must say, for all the censorship and stuff we had in SA in the 70's and 80's, David "Gruesome" Gresham, who had an hour long radio show every afternoon, played some very cool stuff that most definitely laid the foundation for what I still listen to today. AC/DC, Van Halen . . . stuff I'd just never heard before . . .  but still love.

Although it could be said he only played music that furthered his and others commercial interests, mostly narrow band formulaic soundalike Pop music. I grew up never knowing soul, blues, punk and more. Also remember those were the days of all-encompassing censorship, for instance I've always enjoyed African jazz but that was simply not on. You could not go to listen to black music anywhere, let alone have a drink and a dance.

Much the same could he said for all the other local commercial radio stations: commercial CHEESE

Although a few exceptions like first radio DJ that really caught my attention was Neil Johnson late show on 702 in the 80's, when 702 wasn't all talk, Really introduced me to a lot of great music: for example the early days of U2

BBC Radio 1 used to have  lot of late night specialist shows (that were on the net) which i really enjoyed but they all got canned. in favor of bright young things. John Peel used to be on every night until he suddenly died (RIP)

Remember when your mom locked that bad boy and your could still tap the number.. But sometimes you tapped a 9 instead of a ten and you got some other random person

When I was at Tech in the Vaal my girlfriend was still in Newcastle.  We had a pre-arranged time where she would wait at the call-box down the road from her house.  I would then phone from the Call box at the res to the Post Office reverse charge number and give the number of the call-box in Newcastle.  She would then answer when they rang and say "Sure I'll accept the reverse charge"  Worked like a charm!

Remember doing that in the army circa 1985. Lack of cell technology meant that if you wanted to phone the lass you waited in a moer long queue until you got your chance. 3 minutes each I think ?? wanna make another call, go to the back of the queue again. we whiled away many hours waiting to use that (*^&%$& phone. Reverse charges please LOL - the lady I was dating at the times dad was some bigwig in Telkom so his home phone was a perk - worked well. Choice between phone the folks or phone the lass.... phone the lass and ask her to relay the message. !!

Was cleaning out the garage, including inside the roof (mostly boxes), and found these inside an old Nokia box:

And this beer mug (in another box) which happened to be the month I was legally allowed to drink.

The plan was to hit your brother with the ball.  So aim at his head.  The whole time

I have an older sister, although used to jam that game with a slightly older cousin. Was good fun.
