New ballot-style entry process for 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour

of all things you can complain about, the cost of entry is not one of them. This is a fundraising event, not a business run for profit. Demand has shown that people are comfortable with the cost.

You can complain what PPA/Rotary/Lions do with the funds, but that's a separate issue.

so if you have done it 20 times you should get a leg up? by the looks of it you have had lots of chances, how about giving some first timer a taste?

I agree. From now on they should allow all

persons to ride once every 5 years.

Then there will be plenty of first timers getting a change.

To be honest I don't care any more. 10 years will also be fine....lol

then one will have to live over the age of 110 to get into club 21.....

This new random Ballot (Bullsh#t) system is going to make a lot of passionate cyclists that have competed in many Cape Argus/Cape Town Cycle Tours very unhappy!.. and I am unfortunately one of them.  God be with those people who came up with this bizarre Ballot idea.

The writing was on the wall with the change to the burger race...now Stellenbosch Cycle Tour...Had to get their little fingers in this event too and F ... it up. Plus raise the fee up to R470...so its not about cycling anymore but about organisations and money. There goes riding with your buddy or family member!!!

Glad I was able to ride / race a few Argus tours. But Argus is now something from the past.

Perhaps one should have a mind shift with the CTCT (Cape Town CIRCUS Tour), by not confusing it with the Argus.

Have you taken part in the lights by Linea or WP road league events? I find there is more than enough racing at good events.

I will have to look at these......

Thanks for telling me.

I'm not bothered about doing the Argus next year.

This event has become a funride with racing as an afterthought, and although this is great for the majority of riders doing it, I've been there done it and will rather target an event where we can race without having to worry about ballet systems, being ripped off at every turn and having to ride in a "licensed racing group" with all VETS as well as reject elites crammed into one mass crash filled group. Rant over ;)

With so much going for Mountain Biking ... why do they feel the need to add more fuel to the fire to chase people away from Road races ...

All valid comments:

Accommodation and travel

Partners and riding in groups

the next big number (be it 5, 10, 15 ... )

Cost of R 470.00 for the race, (plus PPA Fee which most people only pay for the Argus benefit)

Seeding events ... What is the point ... If the 35,000 "selected few" are all a sub 4 time ... if you get a draw even without a single seeding race you will start in a sub 4 group ... Have they really not thought about any of this?  Or are they arrogant enough to believe that people don't care ...

I will consider putting my name down, but I will not do seeding rides, will not pay PPA membership and who knows ... maybe that is the sad end of it for my Argus experiences ...

I don't get how mtb'ing is the enemy here, part of the problem is that there are  far too many mtb'ers pitching up for this race anyway

Sorry I don't understand what your trying to say here but just in general  I don't get the bitching about seeding events on this thread...

Do hubbers actually enjoy the sport of cycling or is it only the Argus they like?  If doing a cycling event to get a better seeding is a massive chore & inconvenience for you then maybe you should find a sport that you actually enjoy doing...

If you don't like it, you don't have to do it, in fact if they are messing it up so much, create your own "race".

Unless you shave your legs for a living, you are not in a race, you are in a fun ride.*

They have just made the way you enter the ride as fair to everyone as possible.

If I don't get an entry, I would have still enjoyed some amazing closer racing up until then and some Wednesdays at Killarney.

But lets just all take a big deep breath and realize that of the 40 000 people that enter every year, only 25 000 rock up.

So relax, you don't have to cancel your trips or divorce your partners, if you want to ride you will ride.

*I guess leg models also have to shave their legs, so I apologize to the leg models amongst us.

would rather spend the money on an activity card for a year's worth of fun riding.

Even though as a leg model I am offended, as a cyclist I gotta agree with you. This is one of those making a mountain out of a pimple things, I am sure.
