EmJayZA Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Happy birthday, Stretch! It only really counts if you have entered a new age group though. Stretch and Hacc 2
SeaBee Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Hey, all happiness, Stretch! May it be a good one. Regarding the HR query - age-based HR calculations is... okay this is a family show... fairy dust. I, for one, rev higher than age-based calculations (which makes me seem like a fitness level 1 for my fitness test on Disco! ) and others nowhere close to theirs. HR is an individual thing - that is just a very rough guide. Stretch 1

Rocket-Boy Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Happy burpday Stretch™You get a ™ to distinguish you from the thing you do before you go running. Stretch 1
Hacc Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 SH Striders?Florida had the same slogan.Guess it was a popular slogan at some point...Still is a popular slogan at most running clubs. Don't make the mistake of measuring yourself against others. Progress (and run!) at your own pace.Couldn't agree more. Your only competitor in running is yourself, no one else. If you lose focus on this you won't enjoy running.
candz1 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 My heart rate is always high running..i have given up trying to see if I can get it lower. Happy happy Stretchy.. Stretch 1
Mntboy Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I wouldn't say treasured...but definitely something in the memory bank. Most treasured memory is the cliche turning onto the final wide open straight on my first...or any shosaloza/national anthem at the start...i get chicken skin just thinking about itHappy Happy! Hope you're having an awesome day so far and that the year ahead will be filled with lots good things! I was refering to the whole mind over matter experience but ja I can see how wouldn't necessarily be a treasured memory. Sent from my SM-J200H using Tapatalk Stretch 1
Dullscalpel Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 thanks. Not working on anything specifically i.t.o running performance or goals. Just mixing it up with the cycling, and getting "other" muscles working. I found that running really works my glutes and hamstrings more. Cycling left me more quad dominant, which leads to other problems such as APT. And hopefully it will help my calves to grow - running uphill really eats them.Don't forget to stretch!
Stretch Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Thanks to my running hub family for the birthday wishes Khronis, Rocket-Boy, Mntboy and 1 other 4

SwissVan Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 So I went for a run last night, and need some advice. It was my first run in many months, and probably my 3rd in the last 12 months, so I'm definitely not running fit.Distance: 8.7km; 104m elevation gainTime: 45:45Pace: 5:16Heart rate: 174 ave, 183 max So according to my HRM, I was running at 90+% for 45min. Is this normal, or ok? Possible that my max HR is higher (220-31=189bpm).The 1st km or two my breathing was heavy, but afterwards felt like I can easily sustain it and even push harder. I eventually got bored, and returned home - I was kinda knackered afterwards. Will my HR come down if I become "running fit" or should I pace myself? I find running at a slower pace more effort and strain on my legs.In short that's to far and fast for a non runner. Carry on like that a few times per week and guaranteed you will get injured. Running is tough and the body needs to adapt to it gradually over a longer period like 6 months.... Sorry for being blunt, but my train is at it's end station... Good luck MBMtbGirl, stefmeister, Mudsimus and 2 others 5
