Breezer Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 My wife has a garmin fr 30 and I have a garmin strap with my bryton 530. If I wear both at the same time, the garmin fr give me as much as 20bpm more than the plain old strap and that is when I am sitting on the couch. I am not sold on the wrist accuracy.

Frosty Posted January 30, 2019 Posted January 30, 2019 anyone here using a wrist based "hr"? How do you get it to read an accurate HR on a spinning bike? I had my FR235 on, did a spinning session and had it on "Other" activity setting...tells me my hr only maxed at 95 and most of the session was around 60 which is almost my resting hr. Am I putting it on the wrong setting??My Apple Watch and 735XT gives me similar average HR readings which are a beat or two different from the HRM. As far as the profile, I have Indoor Cycling/Run profiles that has the GPS disabled. Both devices are positioned on my right arm (lefty, I am) immediately after the bone at the wrist. I pht it as tight as possible without feeling that restricting feeling. Hardly missed a beat on fairly hairy arms. Here’s my review from 2016:https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/161729-wrist-based-hr-vs-chest-strap/ Lexx and candz1 2

Mudsimus Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Quick price drop before it goes in the stuff drawer. Where it will probably never see the light of day again. Â https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&module=core&do=view_item&item_id=345668&new=1

Am I putting it on the wrong setting??I’m still not convinced wrt wrist based accuracy.  Been using a polar vantage V since Xmas and so far on 2 occasions I’ve seen sustained excessive high HR while out walking in cold / dry weather.  I suppose only 2 obvious errors out of +/- 30 activities is not bad, and yes admittedly even HR straps are not perfect. For indoor cycling I still use a HR strap so I cannot compare properly, although I have worn the watch a few times and the indicated wrist HR seems to be inline with what I see on my cycle computer which is taking hr from my strap (4iiii strap)  The activity you choose, should not effect what HR your watch is showing, unlikely but maybe some kind of interference from gym equipment or someone else’s HR? candz1 1
Jehosefat Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I do find that the wrist based heart rate lags pretty badly when you are doing short intervals (on an IDT in this case) compared to the chest strap. Using a Forerunner 935 for the wrist HR and a Edge 820 with chest strap.
b-rad Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 So this past weekend I completed my first ever Half Marathon at Johnson Crane!  Came in with a time of 2:32. I was aiming for 2:30 so not at all disappointed, and being my first Half Marathon, I just wanted to finish!  I will train better and start improving. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, as it was my first ever 'big race' vs other 10km and 15km races I've done. Will there be more? Abso-frikken-lutely!  Already planning Robor Schaffolding or Wally Hayward as my next 21km.  One thing I was not expecting is the stiffness of the muscles the day after  but epsom salts baths are helping a lot. Would adding in some foam rolling help or make matters worse? I did this run without being apart of a club. But will be joining Benoni Northens AC this Wednesday Congrats on your first 21k! Brilliant!  I still remember the stiffness after my first 21k during a period when I wasn't doing much running at all...it was something else. Some light rolling will help but don't do anything too hectic too soon. A very gentle jog the day or two days after also helps. And well done on joining a real club! Far better than the virtual clubs

Barry Stuart Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I'm not too fussed with the exact accuracy of the HR. To be honest, the biggest use I get out of it is monitoring fatigue or oncoming and outgoing sickness, etc. using the resting HR reading. I've found that it's extremely accurate at predicting an oncoming cold and handy for telling me when I can get to running again. I seldom use it on a run but if I do check in I only need to know roughly which zone I'm in (and that I'm not going too fast for the purpose of the run) rather than the exact HR.
