*** news, you are the reason why I have been following this thread. I was dead keen to see how you tackled this challenged. Bud, you are one gutsy SOB for having a run at a race like this. Some surgery and down time will not phase you if you face them the way you did this race. You will bounce back and who knows, maybe 2017 will see us at the start line. Be strong and heal up.

Well said

Well, it is now official. My munga is over before it starts.

Turns out it is not the saddle, but it is the saddle. In summary, osteoarthritis of the lower spine. And what looks like intervertebral disc degeneration. I kinda of switched off when I heard osteoarthritis. The doctor is meeting with me tomorrow and we are discussing the details and which surgeon to go to.

I cannot begin to describe the whole mix of emotions right now. But a blend of anger and tears are very high up on the list.

Very disappointing I am sure SB.However there is an upside. If you had not gone down this route you would not have picked up the problem. Now at least you can get stuck in and get it fixed.

Bad luck Slo.  What must be , must be.

Imagine the suffering (damage) if you went through with it?

Well done mate, good that you faced it head on.

Best of luck with the recovery.

Aw Slowbee that's horrid. Was so looking forward to following your blip around the screen.

All the best with the surgery and recovery.

Sorry to hear that, was also following your progress with some interest, don't let it get you down, setbacks build great mental strength.

As the saying goes, " getting old is not for sissies".

I have been on three different specialised saddles, two sella italia, and am currently waiting on a test scoop.

I went to a local physio who also cycles, and she pointed me to a biokinetist who also cycles. He heard what I had to say, and asked to look at the areas (lucky could leave my jocks on) and has made me an appointment for an xray. They both said, that something is not right, and it might have nothing to do with the saddle. With less than 6 weeks to go things are looking very bleak and I am not a happy camper right now. Kranswurm may have called it right. Time is very much against me right now. Physio is working on the knee and said it should be ok, but will need strapping of I am going to ride 1100km on the trot.

I have some big decisions to make.

if I may ask who is this bio that also cycles?

Aww man Im sad now. So sorry to hear that Slowbee, my munga is ruined now :(

Hearing things like that are hard, I know the anger and sadness that comes at the same time.

It will get better and you will become more objective about it.

Thanks for the words of support.

Currently I have a fogged haze of a hangover. Three to many glasses of wine last night pondering the many what if's and what should have been in recognizing the signs earlier.

I have had my little wobble, but now it is time for the big boy undies. Suck this nonsense up and get on with what is needed to get back into shape.

First, I am going to be glued to the screen come Munga start. Jealous as all hell - but I am not going to miss this.

Secondly. Mr Munga has been amazing in his support of this issue. So he has allowed me to roll over my entry to next year. Mrs Slowbee also agreed. So guess who has the first entry for 2017 !!!!!!!!

bacon and eggs, cheese griller, hashbrown and some fried mushroom should sort out the liver right ?

Definitely the best way to bounce back. Good luck with the recovery (both hangover, and bum related!)
