If completion target is 4 hours, is it advisable to start fast and slow down later or start slow and pick the pace after halfway? I am worried that if fatigue kicks in halfway, the pace might slow down drastically even if u started slow.

I'd advise to stay within limits the first 80% of the ride and then push on the last 20%

the first half is slightly easier.

Assume 95km = 23.75km/h average.

The first half could be completed at 25-26km/h while the second half is done at 21.5-22.5km/h.

The difference in speed might not seem like a big difference, but pacing it is so much easier than trying to go hard early and crawl home, or start slow and hope you're okay for the end.

Number collection was quick, but if you going to do a reseed then goodluck.

Long queue's there, and some of those ladies don't have a clue how seeding works so it ends up taking much longer than it should.

SPCA shirt is looking good

Going to pack my rain jacket....... just in case

Same here.

Might just go all-out Triathlon on this one and employ the top tube bag for rain jacket+snacks and saddle bag for tools etc. Shirt pockets can only hold so much.

all of the rain that was initially forecasted for Saturday evening has now shifted to Sunday evening. We'll have a better idea of what we in for by tomorrow evening.

In and out in 10mins (racing categories queue) ... bought 3 tjoops for 100ZAR at Cajees and a pump for 70

Didn't park in the 20 bucks spot just went passed to the open parking nearer the entrance to Northgate, just a short walk to the registration.

does tjoops = tubes ?

Painless!!  Went at just after 11am for number collection, done in 5 minutes, easy stroll through the Expo, collected bottles at Telkom stand and even managed to get a free Discovery Team Vitality shirt as was still within the first 200 members visiting the stand.

Disco messes up again. As Gerald pointed out, they didn't have them this morning.

I personally never look at weather forecasts till the afternoon or evening before, those okes often can't even get yesterday's weather correct!

Hopefully it means that we won't be needing our rain jackets
