I've done my fair share of cycle tours, and it's "money spent on cycling activities, be it for one day or any given sunday". So fruit, I guess, to clump them together. I'm totally open to do whatever you want to do with your money. I just think that R500 is just some psychological tipping point for me. Having said that, I'll happily pay R1150 (or whatever it costs this year) to do the origin of trails (2 day stage race). So disregard everything I've said, my opinion is worthless.

Completely disagree with you there. I ride a lot of the origin of trails route everyday on my commute home. Apart from that the first year they had origin of trails they did not give landowners complementary tickets, which they do now, but not back then. So for me R1 is too much for it. I'd rather pay R2k for Transkaroo or R900 for Cederberg 100 miler.

What I dont get about people complaining about the price, it is like they are forced to enter. FOMO kicks in and they HAVE to enter. You have a choice, either ride or dont ride. Spend your money on this or something else.

If you dont like the price then dont enter. You have a choice to enter or not enter. Simple.

More of a challenge to do a sub 7 double lap.

I'd love to do this next year, as it will be my 21st one next year.

It does mean that a sub-3 first lap is pretty much not negotiable though, to be able to get back to the start in time.... no pressure.

And an additional 4 hours of stress for my wife.

Not really, you want to do the first one fast enough to get back to the start in time, but with enough strength left to complete the second one. I did 3:05 on the first and 3:54 on the second. It's great fun, I can highly recommend it, but be careful on the second lap as you will be overtaking and riding along people that are not as skilled as you and they can make very unpredictable and erratic moves.

Saw some of the worst bicycle crashes on my 2nd lap of the Argus.

I did 3:11 and made it back easily... .  second lap was 4:30.. stopped 6-7 times for drinks/food ... a must do.

Apart from this coming weekend's Backsburg ride where I stop for that heavenly Christine Marie MCC at Neil Joubert, I tend to avoid stops unless I really have to go or ran out of water. On a double Argus I stopped on the M3 on my second lap to fill up both bottles.
