Lexx Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Shortened to 65km. Ah Please these guys must toughened up. Jeez, if you paid almost R80000 for an entry, make sure you train in the heat.
LeoKnight Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Precedent set, cancellation will be next. Changes entire race, less suffering, more recovery.maybe change the cut off times rather and give them more time to finish ? and not questioning the decision just curious.

jcza Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Hope the guys in Oudtshoorn, Barberton, Sabie & Mankele don't see this. I agree that some folks pitch up for a jolly and are not properly prepared. Of course it's going to be hot!

LeoKnight Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Well I think that the fact that 70+ teams are out the majority of the unprepared and unlucky has probably been sifted out. Congratulations to those that finish and good luck for the remainer of the race.

These "ballerinas" must HTFU.We're honestly doing this? Comparing a one day race with a multi day stage race, of which the first day was tougher than any one day race I've ever done. Got to love the hub. And if someone were to die (touch wood), we'd all be saying that the Epic is taking the piss, and they need to stop trying to being so hardcore. I'm a little upset by the shortened stage, but once again, good call. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Not sure what the organisers can do in future, I mean everyone knows 8 days in the summer is not something to approach under prepared.
Tatt Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Similar heat at the Tankwa Trek a few weeks ago and the very unfortunate death of the Dutch rider. I think this would have definitely played a role in deciding to shorten. It was brutal just being a spectator at the finish yesterday! Tom
Gnarly Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 And this is what happens when triathletes take over, no wonder you get half Ironman. But I would be extremely happy if I was riding this year. Take it and enjoy it.
PhilipV Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 The shortened stage is going to be a logistical nightmare.
LeoKnight Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 The shortened stage is going to be a logistical nightmare.Maybe mtbing to Caledon and then an easy roadbiking to the finish
Bub Marley Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Can't believe the attitude of people on here. You're not even riding but you're in essence calling those who are riding pussies. I always judge the difficulty by looking at the pro's. They were absolutely knackered yesterday, majority of them. I can only imagine how the amateurs must have felt. It's all good telling people to htfu but heat can be extremely dangerous. Would you go outside and ride your bike in blazing 40 degree plus sun? Stop criticizing and rather support these people. Heat is a killer
