K2C and CTCT have both been very clear about not being sanctioned... snip

snip... Money is short.

These entry fees must be nice and cheap now with them not paying CSA licenses... we all noticed that R35 back in our pockets and boy was it a relief  :whistling:

okee dokee, I had a look see on the CSA website:

they did send out a general warning prior to K2C

https://www.facebook.com/CyclingSA/photos/a.121503097885160/1842805052421614/?type=3&theater

I then had a look at their AMAZING events calender

https://www.cyclingsa-events.co.za/app/

it doesn't work backwards, ie. you can't see races from last month (nor do they have the pioneer trek 2018 or the Cape Epic listed for 2019).

but let's just have a random look at bike hub vs CSA events for nov 2018

here's some events not listed on the CSA website.

Origin of Trails

Double Century

The Munga

so they are not CSA sanctioned(or their events calendar is not as good as they say it is)

Therefore if any licenced elite rider does these events they will get a fine and a ban?

This must happen all the time, so they probably look the other way normally?

Or have they just decided that this is another revenue stream, who cares about burning bridges.

You have to pay to have race listed on calender if i recall, even if sanctioned

I don't think they will even claim at the moment their calendar is good

This same topic pops up every year when one or other CSA licensed rider rides K2C or some other event and gets banned and/or fined.

I get that it is a ridiculous rule, but it is the rule.

It doesn't make non sanctioned races 'not races'. It just makes them non sanctioned.

CSA get no cut so will of course enforce their 'rules'. It comes down to finances and a wrestle for power.

meh

Same riders will probably complain that CSA doesn't pay for their flight and kit to world champs...

This is a very, very, very basic admin task to correct.

But as we all know so well, if an organisation can't even get the basics right, then it's highly likely they can't get the stuff that really matters, right!!!  Like proper financial controls.

Just so interesting to see that there are still cyclists that cannot figure out that unless events are sanctioned the local regions and CSA lose a very big part of their income stream. They will rather sit and bitch if CSA(or the region) cannot support our elite riders, and then bitch again when CSA try to get races sanctioned.

I think that most cyclists pay the entry fee a thinking that races are sanctioned and part of their hard earned cash is at least going to CSA and the region

I am yet to see a race organiser that will openly publish the fact that their race is not sanctioned on their race info and entry portal. They will surely lose riders.

75% of CSA members are not licensed, but want the added comfort of knowing they have that aditional medical cover when things go wrong on race..

The issue I have is, lets say events hand over R5 mill to CSA, CSA then goes and spends R1mill on development etc and loses stacks of cash on hosting events etc that does not go to development or the sport.

As a sponsor/individual, I would rather hand the money to the okes going to race overseas, that way 100% of funds goes to cycling, not other nonsense.

I dont mind paying my PPA membership as they actually sent juniors to Europe. They have donated 100's of bikes to local communities, they have hired lawyers to follow up on bike hit and run cases.

CSA spends their money on a marketing team to send out stupid "tips".

WRT to the CTCT.

the Licensed groups are indeed sanctioned as indicated by the following rules:

2.25. Elite Men, Ladies and Veteran group riders must, in addition, comply with all applicable UCI rules and regulations which can be found at www.cyclingsa.com.

2.26. All entrants competing for podium positions and prize money should note that the regulations of Cycling South Africa and the UCI will apply for the Cape Town Cycle Tour. If you are in any doubt on any aspect of these regulations, please contact either Cycling South Africa or your provincial cycling body.

found here: https://www.capetowncycletour.com/race-entry-terms-and-conditions/

Furthermore CSA made the ruling clear in 2015:

letter found here: https://www.iol.co.za/capeargus/letter-verifying-cycle-tour-facts-1821190

Yes the PPA won the court case that it need not be sanctioned and their argument was that they are an established fun ride catering for 35000 cyclists.

But the PPA also reached an agreement with the UCI through CSA that its licensed racing groups would need to be sanctioned.

Now If I recall correctly there was a check box for a CSA day license when I entered but I didn't need being a CSA member but not license holder.

Funny you should mention the R35 day license; as far as Bestmed Satellite Classic is concerned it is R45, although CSA still mentions R35

And more recently - some PR spin doctors to let everyone know how hard they are working...
