McGregor has terribly bad habits he picked up in UFC that caused him great difficulty in this match, the glaring one being him not keeping his hands up and elbows closed.

He was open to the face and body from the get go, Mayweather toyed with this guy according to the script, keep him alive to round 10!

I'm not a boxing guru by the longest stretch, and he's obviously got some glaring defensive weaknesses, but Mayweather barely touched him those early rounds when he was fresh and moving well. When he did open up and try, McGregor often gave as good as he got. An early knockout was McGregors best bet, so Mayweather took that out the equation and played safe, let McGregor tire and then took advantage of his lack of a defence. Lots of other boxers might well have allowed themselves into a slugfest... and then all bets are off.

But like I said, I'm pretty clueless on boxing, so I'm just calling what I saw and based on my limited knowledge of the discipline.

And you're quite right, the Irishman was light on his feet and did connect quite often and once or twice he did rock Mayweather, it was expected in the early rounds.

If you look at the fight ever again, have a look at how many times McG (basically from the start) he stands exposed, hands too low, right hand extended too far forward (that's his jabbing hand being a southpaw) a really poor boxing stance. Why Mayweather did not take advantage of it earlier I probably know.?  McGregor lacked basic center ring tactics, not forcing Mayweather into his left hand.

What I'm trying to say is this, and I'm also not trying to teach you or diminish your observations, I'm sure you understand, but McGregor is a poor boxer. He was poorly prepared, he lacked stamina and he had no plan other than trying to out-fight Mayweather as soon as possible, which did not work at all.

This was a great show in the vein of the WWF, huge money was made and paid to two very undeserving fighters.

From what I saw when he was still fresh in the early rounds, his hand speed is too slow, and his reach too short to become a world class boxer.

But that is just my assessment.

Spot on.

I hear you, the reason I never gave McGregor a chance was it's just not a discipline you learn overnight - top boxers have all this built into their systems long before they ever get in a ring. You could see Connor could just not control trying hammer punches despite knowing full well he obviously can't do it... it's built into his game/system.

I think McGregor knew this much as well. He was never going to outbox Floyd. Was the open stance not bait to lure out the ultra defensive Mayweather?

I avoided most of the farcical build up, two egos this size was always going to get ridiculous, but at the end of the day we all sat down and watched it along with millions of others because it's entertainment and it's real unlike WWF. Just like I would watch a boxing match between Putin and Trump, but for other reasons

Hopefully this is the last we ever see of Mayweather though, never liked him, never will... still wish he's had the balls to fight Pacman at his peak.

I dont understand Connor's tactics. Everyone knew that if the fight went longer than 5 rounds that he would be out classed.

He never went for the kill. He hardly threw a big punch. It was as if he waw boxing for points.

Not a big Mayweather fan but he showed why he is 50-0. Looked in total control from round 1

Nice article in the Irish Times about the match:

"Floyd Mayweather outclasses Conor McGregor with 10th round TKO.

Irishman struggles to lay a glove on 40-year-old in a Vegas boxing masterclass."

Mayweather needed three rounds to take McGregor’s measure before spending the next seven walking him down and closing the show with a 10th-round knockout.

Vegas is a town built on suckers and dreamers and there were no shortage of either in the desert for a fight that’s expected to threaten the all-time revenue records set by Mayweather’s megafight with Manny Pacquiao two years ago.

Bugger the two in the middle, I would have paid good money to see the two girls get into a wrestling match.
