Truthfully it seems better to head to the UK and purchase a new one there with the difference between locally price and Europe price you'd cover the cost of the flight and have some change to spare to take it for a quick spin in the alps.

Jeffsy 29 CF Pro

UK: £3,499.00 / R62,189.52

SA: R77,900

Flight to UK R10K or less.

Easy Jet to France: £52 return

Hire Car: £12 per day

Throw in cheese, wine, air B&B accom' and you can still come under the price for the same model here.

Then claim VAT @ 20% back at the airport when flying home.

When you put it like that the choice is obvious....

But, you will claim 20% VAT back there and pay 15% this side. I would just check an empty bike bag in this side and bring back a dirty YT - save yourself the hassles of customs.

Wasn't going to to say that but I've done that a few times and not bothered with the bag on the way out.

YT makes awesome bikes but the SA after sales service is terrible. I bought a new Jeffsy in March 2018 and had a Issue with the frame in August and they took forever to get back to me in short I got rid of it and moved on to another brand with better local support.

I just googled a little bit on the YT sites

New Capra stock (29er AL Comp)

USA 13 Feb-10 April (depending on size and colors)

Canada 17 April

Australia 1 May

New Jeffsy 29er ( 29 CF Comp)

USA 8 May

Canada 5 May

Australia 29 May- 28 Aug (depending on sizes and colors)

That say that there is a tremendous back log from head office and that there is a VERY SMALL chance that SA will receive stock in this year, and when they receive stock it will be like maybe 5 bikes total.

As it is a niche brand and a very popular one at that as the Jeffsy won trail bike of the year 2 years running, it seems as if the US market will swallow up all stock, then the Europeans will consume the rest.  doesnt look like YT will be a SA brand this year unfortunatley.

They may as well pack it in before they do more damage to a new brand.

Europe does get a good amount of stock. You'll also find ex factory frames on PB in the classifieds from Europe as they are a Germany based brand.

Yanks complain endlessly about the customer service from YT over there as well but it's swings and round about as when I was living in Europe I couldn't get decent service from the US brands.

So tried to phone them today, lady told me to phone Roman on his cell didn’t bother to phone a person back.It was the same thing with emails, sent one in December and then in January no response. So clearly YT has gone bang in South Africa and the guys now sit with their fingers up their ass.

Call or look up Black Sheep Bikes at Hoogekraal in Durbanville.
They have some YT Demo bikes and some 2018 models. As I understand YT SA needs at least 5 orders per model before they can have the bikes shipped in...
Black Sheep is the local YT service "centre/shop"

Hi,

I just finished building my Jeffsy over December.

So far I have had 1 ride on the new bike, I moved from 26" GT Force 1 over to 29er YT.

The first ride was just to get a feel of the 29er and bike set up, but I must say that i was very impressed and loving it so far.

As said above as well, there seems to be a stock issue everywhere else but europe.

Perhaps the local guy's hands are tied and can't do much about it.

I personally don't like the idea of a direct sales company with local distribution. It defeats the purpose of cutting out middle men and passing those savings onto customers.

So they phoned me back and basically it sounds like YT is done in SA,I was told that none of the 2019 bikes will be coming in and the problem is with YT HQ. To me the writing is on the wall for them here in SA.

Well if HQ can't supply other markets, then the backwaters of SA with small quantities will be scrubbed off the list first.

Or there may have been a genuine breakdown in relationship as well. Who knows?

Being a local distributor for a brand is not all unicorns and rainbows. It needs a lot of kahunas to buy a big stock allotment up front, and if that stock doesn't sell, then you are setting yourself up for a hiding. Kudos to them for trying. Hopefully we'll see a resurgence....
