I love bikes. I am a firm believer that you never ever can have enough bikes. But..... For some reason, fat bikes dont appeal to me at all. Personal taste I suppose.

A gravel bike, now that is something I fancy.

Didn't you buy a fatbike the other day

Says Mr Munga himself... you gonna need all the speed you can get on those dirt roads.

Bud

Mr Munga is a machine.

He can do a double Munga on a BMX. With a flat and no saddle.

Was a good fad for a bit, but as a few predicted became largely a novelty more than anything, not even a nich.

Great for things like the coastlines, Namibia, Snow Epic, Moz and Weskus, but the events themselves or tour groups already package a fat bike for use on those getaways.
They're just not really that practical for most.

I only recently came to the party, very late .... never much of an early adopter ...

But I can tell you it's been huge fun for me,riding it in tech terrain, rock gardens, loose climbs, etc.

Like any hard tail (after one is spoiled with long travel dual sus machines) line choice and body steering are more engaging and the ability to bomb varied trails has been surprising.

So my experience has been that you ride it where you want to with a big grin cos it's not to be limited and pigeon-holed to just sand / snow.

Of course it needs to be bike number 3 or 4 as I will still use my trail / XC rides more ..... but I have found that I ride it in places I never expected to cos it exceeds expectations ... and is FUN!

Still have mine. I think the fad of heavy, cheap, alu fatbikes (fat fatties) might be over. Imported myself a Chinese carbon frame, fork, cockpit (800mm bars!) and wheels a few years back. 1x10 drivetrain. With 5" Ground Control tyres, it still weighs less than 13kg. Whilst it might not be the weapon of choice for races, no other bike puts a bigger smile on my face. Better still, it puts a smile on the face of every person who sees me riding it. Or rather it used to - can't ride because of a health issue. When I am well again, it will be the first bike I ride!!! :D

What frame set did you import. Been looking at bringing one in but just super sceptical of what I see

Would be great to have some idea of something decent

I saw a dude absolutely hammering it around Jonkers on a fat bike a few weeks ago...

Faster than most guys on their trail bikes down The Plumber... I checked #strava afterwards.

Looks like they aren't just for the beach or for old people!

A certain someone said that it wasn't about the bike.

Rode past a guy on a Fatbike with a puncture on Sunday towards the end, in the 55km 947 MTB race. Hope he had a big enough tyre lever, those tyres  have some serious rubber. Hope it wasn't a side wall cut that needed a tube insertion, gonna take some carrying a spare tube like that. Perhaps he wrapped it around his waist.......hold on that's a great excuse and good reason for the bulges under my cycling shirt........that's it I am going to buy a Fatbike!!!
