Looks like the sub3 attempt going to be blown away....unless strong, tight groups are operating

:whistling:

What wind speed will be the level where it will make a material impact?  and understand it might be different for each rider

I warned my son that most of the bunch craziness, as well as bad multi pileups happens in batches 1B - 2K. He will be starting in 1G. Luckily from bunches 3 onward it is everybody for themselves, each trying to out time trial the other riders.

Damn you are putting me in stress mode.. i am in those bunches..

Serves you right you racing snake you.

Just jealous. I ride about a third from the front. I think the middle half of the race is probably the safest, simply because there is less crazy pushing for position, less aggression and most people have done a few races already and are used to riding in big bunches. The other dangerous part (besides for the front) is the back third of the race. That is where the "wildebeest" (what one of my buddies call them) ride. They are often newbies, ride all over the place, brake, stop, turn and weave without warning. Later in the race they become zombies. I have done that a few times riding with my boys when they started. It can be a bit hairy, but then, the flip side of the coin is that the support, friendliness, and solidarity in the later groups is much nicer than at the front.

Quick question.

Does anyone know if any preventative measures have been put in to place for Sunday along Kommetjie road, particularly outside Masiphumelele to make sure they are aware that they may not have a community tyre braai in the middle of the road ??

According to the Cycle Tour Trust they have been engaging the Community leaders for a while now, trying to prevent exactly this from happening.

Let's truly hope their efforts was successful.

There's been interaction with the local community since last year. Whether that will change anything come Sunday is anybody's guess. I'm guessing there will be a strong police presence in and around Massi come Sunday. As a city we can't actually afford Sunday to be a fkup. The negative impact on tourism will be massive.

There was a protest of sorts in Hout Bay on Sunday. The leaders have given the city 21 days to respond to their demands so don't expect any action from Hangberg on Argus day. It was a teeni tiny protest. 20 people at best led by a well known sht stirrer in the community.

Concerned members of a popular local cycling forum have offered to line the road with flogged horses (which are in surplus) so the local rabble rousers can't reach it.

Drove through Sea Point yesterday and it is going to be very narrow just before the swimming pool as the road works are taking up half the road and it is right on the corner.

Be careful out there

Wind conditions look pretty much close to perfect on the day.

For those of us living in CT - the wind has been pumping since Saturday afternoon - but the extremely good news is that it seems to have "lost its legs" by this Sunday - even the site I go to now show far less wind and ZERO rain.

Also as mentioned further up, the section in Lakeside as you turn onto main road is a bumpy mess.. Going to be messy for the later riders with massive groups all going through there.. For the front riders I think it will be ok as they usually get through in smaller groups, But the later riders being all over are going to struggle in that area I reckon...

That's a huge relief. My Windy app has terrible wind forecast for Cape Point on Sunday.

I live in Hout Bay. I know all about the wind.

It seemed to have backed off a bit this morning but it's so hard to predict the wind in HB. I surfed for 20 years (most surfers watch weather patterns pretty obsessively) but I just can't get a handle on HB weather. I've lost count of the number of times I've started a ride up chappies in no wind only to find a very angry South Easter just after the tollgate.

Sunday was also very windy at the Lookout point. Going past the toll booth, almost no wind to speak off. Got a bit top of Suikerbossie again, calm the rest of the way.

We also had strong winds all the way from West Lake up to where we turned right up Black Hill, where it seemed to die down a bit.
