I then raised this with CTCT and a Mr. Dave Bellairs called me and confirmed that CTCT does not have an agreement in place with Avis to provide discounted rates to participants, however Avis does contribute to the CTCT in other forms and this contribution is to the benefit of the various charities linked to CTCT. He suspects that the promo code is merely used for tracking purposes so that Avis could see how many rentals they received from CTCT participants.

The long and short of it all, I have no issue with CTCT but I do believe Avis are being a bit naughty with the way they have set this up on their site.

Now, I am merely creating awareness that, in my opinion, there is an impression of a benefit being created by Avis where none exists and people should know this.

Might this be a case of charity-event-itis? Avis being "a bit naughty" for sure. But if Mr Bellairs didn't know previously that one of his 'partners' (presumably?) was not being clear in their representations, he is now. Or is it 'all in the name of charity', so that's fine then....

Paid, but it was a mission for our family of 4. Had to use the link that was sent to each one of our e-mails. I could not add them to my entry basket. And for some odd reason it did not pick up that my wife and one son are PPA members. So I had to pay the full R510 for them. Sent them an e-mail about it just now. Let's see what happens, but I am not expecting any answer within the next week since it seems to be quite busy their end.

I did get the option of 4 prices when checking out. Strange the discrepancies

For me and my eldest I got different price options. For my wife and youngest son, none, just the R510. My wife is a member under my main membership, while both my boys are scholar members.  I think their DB is not quite clean or up to date.

Entered, I could not give up the Hoopla!

I have come to a good equilibrium with the CTCT, regardless of what happens on the day, just glad get to ride around peninsula with 35000 other lycra clad nut jobs.

That's the spirit and ethos of the race.

You got it, B.

This is the response I got from CTCT.

Good Day

I hope this email finds you well.

The Preferential Entry Fee works as follows:

You will be charged the same entry fee that you paid for your 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour entry.

At the time of your 2017 Cape Town Cycle Tour Entry you were not a PPA member and were therefore charged R510.

Unfortunately this cannot be changed and the entry fee will remain as R510 regardless of your PPA status today

Kind Regards,

Well thats fair, the preferential entry was to put you in the position you would have been in 2016. As you were not a PPA member at that time would not get discount now I guess. Can wait for the entries to open I guess.

My toppie did the entry for him and myself with the link he was sent. He was able to add me to his basket. Strange indeed. Edited by Long Wheel Base

Still cant make my mind up if I should ride again this year.

Last year I was one of the riders to be stopped at Muizenberg due to the wind  protest action.
