I bet on both losing their partners before the end of the week.

I reckon Kate is being managed now well into unknown territory.

If anything grotts is more likely to be broken first

30% of the bikes are spaz, doubt more than 5% of the tyres. Susi was saying on the live feed that they have chosen their hardest wearing option this year. Back to the lab?

And it's not just in the XC race scene where there rubber is a problem. Jared Graves has been robbed many a time of solid EWS stage results due to failed rubber and the Spez WC team fair only marginally better.

Spez seems to strictly prohibit their pro teams from using other tyre suppliers.

game on!

Imagine the lead if spez had decent tyres

Yip and the 'traditional' XCO guys looking forward to a couple of shorter and more technical days...

Since Burry and Sauser's days I remember the phrase '...and Spez/Songo have another puncture...' and again and again.

Weather wise the riders must have been VERY grateful today, especially on this long day, so far the weather has probably been as ideal as could have hoped for.

Ah... nuts. I've just put a 2.6 Butcher in Grid on my 9'r. Hope it bucks the trend. That said my 2 x Slaughters have never punctured. Maybe it's just their control / XC range.

Oh, I know I've missed it some where but is Nino carrying on?

Nope. He has called it quits and has gone home. Not that I blame him tbh.

At least once per stage and in both the men's and ladies races. Kinda gets old real quick doesn't it.

Are the spaz tyres lighter than the opposition tyres?

Why are they so useless..?. allegedly...

having never ridden them myself

I had a set of Captain Controls in Botswana and they were OK.With enough snot they did the job

I get that, but do you average 26/28kph for 112km? Most guys who hack about here do that on a road bike.

It means that the tire is hitting things a lot harder a lot more of the time. Think a sharp knife pressed gently onto your thumb, then think that same knife hitting twice as fast.

The speeds these guys ride at is insane and completely changes the game for equipment and equipment abuse/reliability.

If you do race at the front end of the field then I apologise, but very few 'Hub' locals have experience at the front end of the field and how the more exaggerated forces reap havoc on equipment

You do realise though that the average MTBer weighs about 85 kg, whereas the average elite MTB racer weighs about 65 kg. That sort of compensates for the speed hitting the sharp object.

It also do not explain why the Spez teams have more punctures than the other elite teams.

No, they just have balloons for tyres.

according to Sauser they're running grid casing which is pretty good/tough ( as good as EXO for maxxis ? )

however they're running the renegade , which is basically A semi-slick and i think they drop the pressure to get decent grip in corners ect. and that's where issue comes in

I've ridden grid tyres at hakahana crap hard and they held up ( i was At 30psi for my 63kg weight tho )
