Canyon only sell by shipping internationally, there's no Canyon brick and mortar dealer in SA or anywhere else in the world. Not the typical case where somebody ordered a Shimano groupset from CRC in order to cut out the local suppliers.

The warranty sits with Canyon, not the local distributor. I would argue that it makes a lot of sense for Canyon to do a small transaction with the local distributor to replace the component instead of getting the client to courier it to Germany and couriering a replacement. This comes with the added pains for customs, time delays etc. From Canyon's perspective it's probably cheaper to do this than the paying for the two-way courier and customs on a EUR200 part. On top of that Cool Heat is reputable and can check if the part is actually broken.

We aren't the only faraway country they ship to, there must be some of this going on for smaller issues.

OE parts carry international warranty and under distribution agreements have to be honored by local agents. Aftermarket parts generally have to go throuth the retailer you bought it from, but most (more better) agents will look after some warranty cases where it makes sense.

Canyon have an agreement in place with SRAM SA (Cape Cycle Systems) , not sure about Shimano (Coolheat)

This is true for most OEM’s . Had to warranty a brake caliper on my Super6 a couple of years ago. Omnico sent the warranty claim onto CCS.

Riding buddy had to warranty a super record bottom bracket. He lives in the UK and was out here on holiday. J&J sorted it out.

My Ultegra was warranteed by Cool Heat - they DID ask for proof of purchase and I included customs payments.

Top tube bracing

I sat on my top tube two days after Christmas and it survived. And I pretty much ate enough food to feed a small nation over the festive season!

But, I don't have the Aeroad...
