Poor Mol slang is not even on that list. And most likely to be mistaken for another thing on that list. They are plentiful around bloemendal. They like sunbathing too. You are most likely to see mr cape cobra around hoogies and conties in my experience. Well thats where ive encountered them anyway. Puffies more to stellies side i think. If only seen them at jonkers and boschensal. But i guess you will likely find any one of those anywhere in the cape so dont bushdive too much!

A door stopper "lapslang" makes my heart skip a few beats 😝

Bottelary Hills also have a few Puffy's and Bra's. Mole snakes are often mistaken for the darker Cape Cobra.

Yeah, my wife asked me over the weekend, what am I going to do if I'm out in the hills alone, an hour or two away from home and get bitten by a Cape Cobra.

My answer was simple...  "I'm going to die babes". That's probably the reality of it because you can't just go lie down and hope someone comes riding past, especially if you're in Bottelary Hills.

It's also one of the reasons I prefer riding early mornings in spring/summer, just to reduce the risks. I've seen enough of them on the trails to make me wonder how many I haven't seen and just missed 😲

the above mentions 2 deaths for 2023/2024 the other mentioned above of the snake handler who got bitten by he's own snake will probably fall under the new fin year.

To the sterk seun who decided to shout obscenities at 4 riders at Conties on Saturday morning because we were impeding your progress seeing as you were riding down a trail that is actually intended for traffic heading in the opposite direction, I just want to point out the foolishness of your impulsive inclinations. You should note that you were not taking into consideration that the 4 of us were discussing wether we should turn around and teach you some "trail side etiquette", and that in all likelihood you would find that very unpleasant to say the least. Lucky we decided the effort wasn't worth it and rather spent it on the trail. My only bit of advice is next time you decide to shoot your mouth off at people you don't know, count the cost first and determine whether you can afford that ticket to the dance because you might not get away so easily again as you did today. Just saying. Don't be a deus. Be lekker. And mind your own business.

Many holiday riders that dont know the trails ... then again, sadly so, many regulars that turn one-way sections into two-way trails.  Even Granny Gear coaches letting their kids walk up sections of Lombards to session it ...

 

Stop your bike at 45-degrees, blocking the trail.  Calmly explain it is one-way, and that their actions are dangerous.

In this case it was a local rider judging by the club board hanging off his bars. Some context, we were riding in a loose bunch side by side heading up from the Dairy Shed and were climbing up the hill past that foreman house on the corner. We were just riding at a relaxed pace having a chat when suddenly this guy appears and just charges straight at us and before we could make way and apologise he just started shouting and swearing at us, almost causing a collision in the process. The trails are not a space for road/trail/roid rage.
