Why the original poster and all the howling vigilantes baying for the sponsors blood did not address the actual organisers directly in the first place beats me

Yes, on paper if you finished 6th with one ghost rider in front of you then you are bumped to 5th - easy. But what if the ghost rider held you back enough to not be able to have caught the 4th placed rider? Fight, fights all over the place.

Not saying "no", just adding some thoughts to the discussion.

Yes some will see it this way, another way of seeing it is that a stronger field will race the standard of the racing which in turn will benefit the stronger riders because of the increased competition.

Is whatever position your kid finishes on the day the ultimate & only goal or do you want him/her to develop into a better mtber? I appreciate that people will have different opinions on this.

Expected nothing less. As said above, Amarider has just taken over the running of the league countrywide, there will be lots to do as it is before this curveball.

On Spur: they are a sponsor of an existing league / series. They are pitched and then decide to sign up or not. They don't make the rules and stipulate the details, I'm sure they can ask or suggest but not sure beyond that. Should we boycott Castle cause the governing body says a player must spend X amount of time playing in SA to eligible for the national team? Nope.

Kudos to Spur and all the people behind the league, the way it has exploded is only good and without them cycling will and would've stayed a niche sport. The skill and quality of kids coming through the ranks is incredible and will be GREAT for our country on international level. Great for bike sales, great for events, great for everyone on the sideline who directly or indirectly benefit.

I was under the impression that Meurant and his team were involved from at least 2011.That was when I had correspondence from him about the Spur finals in Magaliesburg

I’m gonna take a guess here that home schooled kids makeup let’s that 1%? Anyone know?

Just saying there’s lots of events out there, can we not just move on? I don’t think this is a life changing event that kids can’t miss out on.

I see u can do the berg and bush at 15 now...

Have updated it just for you. It was as a quick joke on a thread months back... never thought to change it again.

What would I honestly know about the series though. Will leave it to the experts.

Start at the beginning where he mentioned he did as well as repeatedly throughout the thread.

The Hub wins again. It's amazing the power this site has on the cycle world.

That comment made me think of the "Toyota decided to build the DC Landcruiser because of the 4x4Community in South Africa...." No, not actually BHP Billiton buys more Landcruisers than all South Africans and they told Toyota to get their act in place or they would buy alternative vehicles. On that point, the largest Toyota dealer in Texas sells more Toyota's than Toyota South Africa.

Sorry, I am off-topic.

Was listening to a speaker this week, the core of the message is when you write / share / tell someone something, don't just assume that they understand the context in which you are sharing it.  Rather consider how they will receive / interpret it and the adjust your form of message to get the maximum affect to bring across your point.

So many making comments here without actually reading what is being said, or taking one or two comments and applying it as the believe / view of all.  Then again some people read just enough to find something that they can use to defend their view, invalidate the next persons opinion and establish dominance.

My suggestion stick to the facts and points, my view

- The organisers have been engaged already, and through this thread they can also see that there are people in the community feeling very strongly on either side, and that a conversation on their argument and views can be aired (lets rather create a forum for discussion and dialogue than a debating /attacking mop)

- Threats of boikot of sponsors that is doing A LOT for sports and cycling feels counter productive, I have got lots of respect for SPUR's efforts they put into development, rather engage with them in collaborative way than aggressive way.

- On the matter, that except if there are strong reasons the "ghost rider" approach sounds to me the most win win situation, where the strength of the field is increased, youth gets developed, and love for the sport is cultivated

- The arguments / opinions on the perceived benefits does not hold to much water for me, as there are already a number of other even more pronounce unequal advantages factors in place (quality of the bikes, access to transport, coaching, eating plans, access to gear, power meters, etc.

- Name calling reflects more on the person doing it than the intended target

And if you were planning to eat at Spur, please do. You might even bump into the Greens.

Greens are all Vegan. No chance you'l find them at the Spur.
