K2C & e-bikes

Wow, so much of aggro!!

Come up with the plan, then.

Get involved organizing events and you’ll see it’s not so simple.

Maybe there is a business opportunity for someone who wants to cater for e-bikes organising ‘mass’ e-rides (races??).

On a point-to-point race (yes, it is a race even for the guys at the back...) like K2C it’s more than a bit difficult to offer a separate category.

Different day, maybe? Well, will there be a couple of hundred (or a thousand?) to make it worth the organizers’ while? I don’t think we’re there yet. Doubt it will ever happen because as has been pointed out time and again these are two very different types of ride.

(So much of entitlement, can you imagine the trail ‘etiquette’)

Blah blah blah.

The same problem exists with people participating in conventional push bike events. Some light weight cruises past on the hills then holds you up on the descents. You want them to enter a different event to you too?

That's an attitude problem and it makes no difference what bike that person is riding.

If they have their own category then so what. If not then surely your superior technical riding ability will help you pass them.

So I'm still not seeing the problem

Give them their own category

I was going to answer this but really you are just trolling now - it's not remotely the same problem.

DieselinDust trolling?

I'm not having that. Never...

Just leave him have his 2 minutes of fame, he is obviously an ebike rider who takes things personally rather than objectively!

Back to the OP's question, none of the ebike haters here have a very valid reason why a guy with spinal surgery can't do the Karoo2Coast ride race and finish in 1793rd place, apart from "it's the rules".

Instead of just going round in circles, here is a totally plausible rule for ebike cyclists to enjoy races along with all other cyclists.

a)there is an official Ebike marshal who starts in the second half of the field from the startline, Ebike cyclists are not allowed to pass this rider anywhere on the course.

b)EBike cyclists do not get an official finish.

I'm a very average driver with a very **** car but I want to be allowed to race my car in F1, anybody that tries to stop me is just really being selfish.

Why doesn't the guy in your example just get on a bike and ride, then next week ride a bit more until he is in good enough shape to ride the race without having to resort to outside assistance?

Click on the links I provided and you'll see that he did.

BUT he is an enigma, an oke that large who can ride CX races was clearly hiding a thoroughbred inbteween all that lard.

For the normal people who are terribly overweight, a pedal assist bike will enable them to ride longer/further from the beginning. Easier to get into the sport, easier to keep motivation up, more chance of actually making a success of it. As much as you may hate these overweight disgusting people, some exercise will do their health wonders - and the upfront cost of an ebike will probably save everyone money in the long run. Yup, as the third most obese country in the world, these are the guys costing you and me high health insurance premiums.

I started writing a reasoned response then realised that you keep using the words "hate"  or "hater" about those who hold opposing views  to avoid dealing with the content of their argument, so I won't bother as you will refuse to understand it.

Maybe take your rose tinted glasses off for a minute and go back and read post #3

It is not the "hub haters" as you like to misname people saying "it's the rules".... rather it is clearly stated by the organisers of the event.

So enough with you also playing the victim card !!

There is that hater word again. Are there any haters here? I don't think so.

So your solution to ebikes in races is to create a loooong line of ebikes behind one ebiker going slowly to clog the race up. That sounds a bit silly.

As for the unfit people - they should start small and build towards a goal. A 3 day 100km per day stage race probably isn't the best idea as your first race.

What ever happened to working towards a goal and enjoying all the little wins along the way?

Ebikes and human bikes have a speed difference that's big enough that they shouldn't race together. That and the fact that it is thinly veiled "cheating". It is no different to doping or taking a 10km short cut. Just because you can buy it over the counter doesn't mean it's morally correct to use in a race.

"hater"...yes it's a word.

here's what it means. and it's in the correct context here. Stop hating on ebikes y'all.

I will again say that the problem probably isn't with 72 year old John Rogers with a hip and a knee replacement wanting to ride k2c. Cool, let him do it.

Suddenly team Bulls have an ebike or 3 in the start chute, they quickly hit the front and work with one of their guys to moto pace him to victory.

It can start out as a 'lets all play together' fun initiative but as humans, the will to win will supersede what is right.

Go and drive your e-bikes on all the trails, on all the radness, but not at a race. Come on.

What a sad individual you are!... I give you a precise response as to the reason that the OP cannot ride his ebike at K2C and this is your response!!.... so be it, as is always the case... when one starts loosing an argument intellectually... they resort to name calling.... nothing ever changes!!.... except of course my opinion of you as an individual.....

At the end of the day its not up to anyone here on the hub to decide if a "race" should allow e bikes. (I put race in inverted commas as in the bigger races I'm not sure everyone is racing as I think some will just be riding)

That decision sits with the race organizers to decide and obviously they will talk to riders, land owners etc before deciding.

And the riders of the races will need to decide given the choice of the race organizers whether to ride or not.

I think I'm correct in saying that the 94.7 allows e bikes as does the AmaShovaShova.

In a like vein  K2C has decided to not allow e bikes.

All riders riding normal bikes or e bikes need to respect the wishes of the race organizers in this regard.

As to whether to allow e bikes on trails again the land owners and the trail makers/maintainers will need to decide and in a like manner people can choose to ride that trial or not.

All we as hubbers can do is air our views and lobby the decision makers to allow or not allow e bikes.

At the end of the day choice comes into it, choice of organizers of who to allow to ride or not ride, and choice of cyclists to ride that event or trail based on what has been decided.
