Fleming Posted October 12, 2018 Share Friend of mine bought a trail 5 and asked me to assemble it. I couldnt get the right pedal to go in and eventually discovered that it was threaded for a left pedal even though the axle was stamped RH. Could even screw it into the left crank. Other than this small problem the bike is fantastic for the price.
MORNE Posted October 13, 2018 Share went to Makro milnerton to get a trail 5 for wifey. they didnt have stock so we phoned all the rest and only Cape Gate had stock left. they had 4. in the time it took us to drive there from milnerton...there was only one left. awesome bike for the money btw. the 7 has n nice color scheme but generic components for stem/seatposts etc from what i saw quickly. the 5 has cannondale branded C4 parts on most of those and obviously the shimano and tekro ones for the rest. bargain of the year. edit: oh and forgot to mention the 5 also comes with a sunrace cassette Edited October 13, 2018 by morneS555 LeoKnight and DieselnDust

Lets hope this is not the last of the bikes they will be bringing. But this morning at the STBB I was REALLY tempted to ask the one guy on a Dale (actually a lefty), at which Makro did he pick that one up. But I knew he was going to drop me around the first corner so decided to keep my mouth shut nickc, Tabula Rasa, Christian van Zyl and 3 others

Jaco Steyn Posted October 14, 2018 Share Anyone who has bought the Trail 5 and tested it proper care to report back? Build quality? shifting precision? What would you improve/upgrade?I got mine at Makro Vaal, they only received 10, with a waiting list of 20. They phoned me on Tuesday at 11:00 I arrived there just before 12:00. Assembled it that afternoon after work and fine tuned everything the next day, once again after work. I used it to commute to work and back on Thursday and Friday, and, what a pleasure! This will be used to replace my daily commuter, a 10 year old Cannondale F7 (26"). Therefore no real MTB'ing will be involved most of the time. Build quality - Excellent! I would almost say a little better than my old 'Dale.Shifting precision - As good as can be expected from the Acera R/D. I have not really made use of the F/D.Brakes - Those Tektro hydrolic brakes stops on a dime! I almost fell my a$$ off the fist time, being accostumed to the older mechanical brakes. What would I improve/upgrade - For what I need it for, nothing, except tomaybe put in sludge in the tubes and a tyre liner to protect me from the thorns and small pieces of glass on my way to work and back. I almost was tempted to put up a photo of my ride as well, but then remembered the MTB purists here on the Hub will have a field day commenting on the reflectors on the bicycle...... This unfortunately is a factory requirement at Sasol that it must have both front (white) and rear(red) reflectors on it according to the Road Traffic Act. wiledog_x, Dadbod Racing, RocknRolla and 8 others
RocknRolla Posted October 14, 2018 Share This is pretty cool, as much as massmart is an evil megalomaniac that devours the little guy, they know how to find a gap in the market.Hopefully this will be a lesson for the local distributors to not only target the upper end of the spectrum, not everyone can afford to, or want to ride a 100k bike. Or even a 20k bike. Captain Fastbastard Mayhem, gogo@, nickc and 1 other

Allrounder Posted October 15, 2018 Share According to the okes at Makro Milnerton, this was a once off, and they wont be bringing in cannandales again.
DieselnDust Posted October 15, 2018 Share 6 of my pals have bought the Trail 5 from Makro for themselves, wife or kids. That's 6 new mountainbikers that the "official importer" didn't bother trying to capture. Somehow I think they missed the boat badly on this one. gogo@, RocknRolla and stefmeister
nickc Posted October 15, 2018 Share According to the okes at Makro Milnerton, this was a once off, and they wont be bringing in cannandales again. Mixed reports from different branches - others say they are getting more later. I suppose we will have to wait and see. Allrounder
Barry_W Posted October 15, 2018 Share I just saw this on Gumtree what do you guys think, seems like a good deal? https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-mountain-bikes/higgovale/cannondale-trail-5-29er/1003255824940910183719309 Edited October 15, 2018 by Barry_W

CAAD4 Posted October 16, 2018 Share Now that Sears are closing down in the USA, they simply need to reassign one branches allocation to our 20 Makro stores and we will be sorted.

MORNE Posted October 16, 2018 Share Nico is a tjop! It's ok, the Daspoort tunnel is a oneway trip. It is that 7's forever home now. It is said that things that go through there, never return. gogo@ and Wet Ears
