I can not believe that that would be the case....that would just be unprofessional.

Hard to believe but is the case. If a GC contender comes to the tour under cooked, what are the chances his domestiques are any better prepared?

Not many teams send their TDF squads on training camps leading up to TDF, look how few race days Thomas had before TDF last year and Froome the year before. No other team does that.

Who are these GC contenders that did not prepare for a GT .. besides maybe Aru?..

You'd have to name names and scenarios

SKY only have GT ambitions other teams have other ambitions and know survival means race results..they depend on results throughout the year to secure sponsors, unlike Sky who sat comfy with their Sky sponsor. But would love to know who these riders were who do not prepare and follow training plans and weight manage as you suggest.

I wouldn't invest in a cycling team.. you can only bleed money for so long even when you are filthy rich..

It really comes to no surprise ..we all discussed this when the news of a sale surfaced.

Big corporations that make a lot of profit need a donkey to show some losses and pay less tax............oh and the TV exposure

You know the answer yourself, at the Giro, Froome was fat and well under-cooked and sky stated that he was riding into form to peak in the 3rd week.

He had 2 objectives.. Giro and TDF..his prep would be different than only going after one GT, Savage is implying that I would be surprised how many GC contenders are unprofessional when it comes to preparation..I want to know who they are.

Proper professionalized sport.

American Football has the best model.  The teams own the league and share the revenues, the best players make a fortune.  The governing body is tiny.  Investing in a small team and turning them into winners can net one a fortune.

Went through Forbes "100 top paid sportspeople" list, no cyclists!! How can Sagan not be in there??  He must sell so many S-Works bikes and shower heads ;)

A.S.O. are a cancer and as long as race owners keep the lion's share of revenues cycling will remain a small sport.

so you're describing Velon model, and the hammer series.

american football is just dumb.

and by dumb i mean brainless.

and by brain less I backup a class action suit with 20 000 former players suing the league for head trauma injuries.

and that's just the beginning

I think you're misinformed here, when you're that rich the numbers get silly.

so Sky is by far and away the richest team in the history of the sport.

the 150m GBP over 10 years sounds like a lot, don't it?

Except when you're worth about 20 000m GBP

I said.. I wouldn't.. not even as a hobby.. but others would and do cause else there wouldnt be cycling teams ..and as Coppi said when you are that wealthy I suppose you need to show losses somewhere.

Title or any other sponsors don't serve in perpetual servitude ... after just under 10 years, its reasonable that they would want to wind up their agreement with cycling, although the sale surely did have something to do with it. I was actually surprised they stuck around after The Wig & the Jiffy bag fiasco.

Jelly Belly in the USA also recently wrapped up their sponsorship after something like 10 years, I say these generous sponsors should be thanked for their support, not condemned for moving on.

Wonder who owns all the intellectual property on Sky's training methods, programs, nutrition etc.... am sure that could well be worth a small fortune........jiffy bags included of course ;)

DB going to walk off into the sunset with all that marginal gains info?

Remember that SKY Tv is just a sponsor. The team is administered and managed by British Cycling. So just sponsorship will change. May have to trim the fat if future sponsors can't fund the animal at the size it is currently
