...not to mention i should technically be able to claim more discovery vitality race points for finishing a 60 or 100km race on a bicycle rather than an E-bike :whistling:

I was hoping the one battery UCI rule would make the 60 and 100 km races unattractive for ebikes. You'd need to be a bit of a hulk to pedal those things 50 kays with a flat battery.

IMO that won't work either, not enough e-bikes out there, so an e-bike event would have like maybe 50 riders. Look at SS events, not many participants when comparing to geared events.

Allow them in normal MTB events but they start in the first batch maybe 15 minutes before the A batch starts, that way they will not interfere with the rest of the field. Also give the normal peddlers something to chase - Imagine the bragging rights "I caught and passed 9 e-bikes"

If wifey on an e-bike wants to ride with hubby on his normal bike then he has to start with her in the e-bike batch.

No podium, prizes or official times for e-bike cat.

They should impose and enforce a "Give way" rule. So an e-bike always has to give way to a normal bike in any situation. Like they do in boating, Motor power vessels always have to give way to wind power vessels. So on a single track climb, descent or flat, the e-bike must wait until he has a gap to pass and must give way to

In a group if the e-bike rider wants to stay with the group they must be relegated to the back of the group.

E-bikes have entered the MTB arena in a big way, now they coming into Road as well, no doubt next will be gravel. Event organizers need to find a way to accommodate everyone. Maybe not everyone will be happy, but even without e-bikes, not everyone is happy

Current CSA rules for a MTB race excludes drop-type handlebars and E-Bikes.

14.01.006 drop-type bars

14.01.007 complete event on human power alone

14.01.010 can’t use e-bikes on the same course at the same time.

Then, they added rules 25 and 26 for e-bikes and gravel bikes respectively. E-bikes can only participate in E-bike competitions (rule 25.05).

Gravel routes mustn’t have any single track. The rules allow CX, MTB and Hybrid bikes, so the way forward for organizers is to call it a gravel race, and exclude all single track... then any form of bike can enter (except e-bikes).

So the MTBers will be unhappy that there is no single track, but the gravel grinders will be happy because they can ride in a dirt track event that allows MTBs at the same time.

That would be *** funny to see a rider on the side of the trail, not looking for a spare tube or a bomb, but asking if anyone got a spare battery.

No doubt we will soon see water points equipped with gensets and banks of recharging plugs

To be honest, I don't 'get' the idea of an e-bike 'race'. It becomes less a human factor and rather the person with the best/latest/larger battery/technology i.e. money, etc.  But having said that, I rarely do races. I prefer the solitude of riding alone. I only do races in order to ride on trails that I will normally not have access to and not to compare myself to others. So maybe for e-bikers it is the same, although I doubt it.

I think MadMarc has some really good suggestions., Especially the 'Give Way'. I will be pretty miffed if I need to give way to an e-bike on a climb only to get stuck behind it on the downs.

lots of people do these races to enjoy a good time with friends on trails they don't usually ride on more than to beat other people or their PRs, that's why there are Ebikes classes in most races now.

I think it's cool, but they should always start 1st for each distance so that they don't end up passing angry regular cyclists who hate seeing ebikes go faster than them more than they enjoy riding their regular bike   :w00t:  :w00t:

EBike, whatever, just don't get in front of me on the single track if you don't know what you doing. I might end up getting banned from the races after that.

Make that at least 15 minutes after the last group left. Why should e-bikers get the benefit of riding in the cooler hours of the day. Make them sweat at least.

And what about a cyclist that’s just fitter than you but not as “skilled” on the single track?

What is it that you will do that will get you banned?

Do you think there was ever a discussion like this when geared bikes were invented? And single speed chaps were bemoaning their hardships...

Doesn't happen too often that someone holds me up, I am average, just go with the flow of the bunch. I have seen people walk down most things when they are beginners, so this is very irritating if you trying to do a race.

I may hurt someone's feeling with a harsh comment.

100%  I couldnt care about ebikes in a race  but dont dare pass me on a climb then hold me up on ST , things will get ugly.

As for E bike knocking me down from 987th to 993rd in the results....... who cares.

That really is very funny ... thanks for making my Monday ... as a prospective e-bike buyer!

Just because some of us lack talent or don’t train enough doesn’t mean we aren’t racing the funrides. Different levels, different goals, but still racing. I came 201st at last years K2C and I’m not going to podium but if my goal is position 199 this year am I not racing ? I’d be bummed if an ebike knocked me back. If we weren’t racing for for position 655 to 4, 1 to 3 would be insignificant. ebikes aren’t going anywhere, we need to find a way to encourage and accommodate without cheating me and my small penis out of a position however insignificant the real racers think that may be.

Anyway everyone knows any position behind first is just another loser

After discussion with the safety officer and medical team – a decision has been made NOT to allow Ebikes and Gravel Bikes to participate in this event. This is for safety reasons due to the size of the existing field and the technicality and speed of the downhills and route in general. Although these bikes may work for experienced riders – the concern lies with the fun / less experienced riders and the speed / descents / drop off’s on the route. The medical team is large and generally works very hard to take care of the riders – and we do not wish to add any more pressure or risk to the event dynamic

So if it doesnt matter if you come 900th or 990th, why get so aggressive about being held up on the ST by slower riders?

Stop, have a drink from your Camelbak, give them 30 seconds head start and go again.

Everybody has to start somewhere and there will always be beginners at races and seeding doesn't always sort that out. We all started out as beginners and we are all still improving.

You wouldn't have hurt my feelings but you would have got a mouthful back.
