Securing Bike

I am living in a complex (ground floor) and looking  at  ways to secure my bike. Although I have a patio there are no railings to chain the bike to. I am looking for ideas on ways to secure my bike and welcome  your suggestions. Mounting is out of the question and keeping the bike inside my apartment is also a definite no.

Do you have a garage? Basement parking?

 

You could drill something into the wall there.

Do whatever you have to do, but keep your bike inside. Outside or anywhere it is visible to passers by, is an invitation to get it stolen. Just don't do it. I know you said keeping it inside is impossible, but try to make a plan. Hang it from the ceiling? Spare room? Mount it on a wall? Bike stand? Try make a feature of it? Climb over it every time you go to the bathroom? Don't hang it in the shower - too damp! But just about anywhere else indoors will be OK. Just don't leave it outside, even if you chain it to a bulldozer.

Assuming it’s insured, letting it live outside, regardless of how you lock it up is likely to get your claim rejected. It’s a high risk, high value item, to leave it outside is begging to get it stolen.

 

There is nothing you can bolt it down with that a bolt cutters won’t get through.

 

To be hones, with winter coming up, insurance be damned, there are sensitive components on a bike and this weather is likely to wreck them, what’s going to happen to your chain, suspension, frame if we get one of our nice 7 day downpours 200/300mm of heavy rain and hail slamming down on your bike from every direction.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Not sure if I want to spend so much on a bike and have to worry about it being outside. I am  going to lobby with body corporate  to provide secure storage for residents.

I don't understand why it can't live inside?

If it's an anesthetic thing, build a stand for it. If it's a space thing, get creative.

Flip, in varsity a mate of mine shared a room, and his bike slept in the top part of his cupboard, he had to take off the wheels every time, but his bike was safe.

Will wait for your post in stolen bikes once someone has broken into the storage. As others have said, make a plan to keep it inside, if you have to take the wheels off to fit it in a smaller space, do so.

That's weird man. I'm not one to judge but I don't even let my bikes sleep in the garage. They have a nice little painted, double story nook in the back room to stay safe and warm and feel loved.

 

When I lived in a shoe box flat with my missus many years ago I kept them behind the couch in the lounge.

 

I'm going to give you the same advice I gave someone who wanted to adopt a pup and keep it outside...... Don't get it in the 1st place.

 

Rather buy some in line skates and leave them outside.......
