PhilipV Posted May 1, 2021 Posted May 1, 2021 tell you what, at R330 I'll be servicing my hubs just as regularly. With regular use I reckon I'll get 2years out of the tub across the 3 DT Swiss star ratchet hubs I have.My bottle of ring drive lube was R110 in 2016 and I've just run out. LBS gave me a replacement bottle because thye bought a box and haven't even got to the 2nd bottle yet.I have a feeling that like myself, yiu also have a crate full of specialized oils and lubes and greases for home servicing of everything. That reminds me, I need to get some sram butter again. ChrisF 1
Alouette3 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 What is the official DT approved tool or best way to hold a straight pull spoke and stop it from rotating while working on nipples?
MarcHD Posted May 3, 2021 Author Posted May 3, 2021 What is the official DT approved tool or best way to hold a straight pull spoke and stop it from rotating while working on nipples? The official tool used in house by DT is a pneumatic clamp that costs hundreds of euro's. For literally everyone else, the accepted practice by DT is one of these pliers

Apologies for missing your comment! Suspect the new site updates have changed the way in which users are notified of posts/comments/tags as I don't recall seeing any mail come through... I think the Torque Zone guys up in Gauteng are the official importers. https://www.torqzoneacademy.co.za/
NotShatterProof Posted August 4, 2021 Posted August 4, 2021 Excellent. Thanks. I'll see what I can arrange. Apologies for the long delay but I only happened to see this because I was reading another thread and it popped up a notification. MarcHD 1

Throw the round straight pull spokes in the bin and replace with bladed spokes, which you can hold with a slotted tool. Every single Roval wheel I rebuild.
Alouette3 Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Rebuilt my wheels with new rims, hassle was mostly with undoing the straight pull spokes, once cleaned and lubed had surprisingly little hassle with the straight pull spokes spinning. Used a strip of masking tape as a flag to track any spinning or twisting. MarcHD and Hairy 2

Personally a huge fan of straightpull (as is DT Swiss) the frustrations, perceived or real, are negligible compared to their benefits
