Motorists vs Cyclists.... again

Terminator

Recommended Posts

I never understand "cyclists" Who feel the need to advertise "look at my empty bike rack, I'm a cyclist" and then speed up ahead of me to turn slowly left right in front me while never checking a mirror.

This is just a subset of motorist. They dont think like cyclists but are most likely golfers with a bike or two. Cycling is their latest cool fad. It gives them something other than rugby to talk about at the braai. Its also more acceptable than fishing after their wife found out that fishing was just an excuse to overnight with the skelm.

Real cyclists just go about the business of being responsible road users and strive to just get along with all road users and understand that if everybody wins everyone is safe and happy

We have a long way to go.

Sometimes (mostly) I fear it is like a never ending story.

But we're also going the wrong way

One of the guys we ride with was run over on his bike this morning by a car, while in the yellow lane. Driver drove off.

But yes, tell us again about cyclists taking photos and the one time they jumped a red light.

He is ok enough to reply to whatsapps just shaken.

Yes, they are part of the traffic. Same as if you get stuck behind a horse box or a truck. Deep breathe, what is the rush?

My question was answered above thanks

Damn, whats with this new trend of people just leaving an accident scene.

I am sure that the stats don't exist, but it would be very interesting to compile a list cyclists injured or killed by motorists. I imagine that the vast majority of the cyclists were taken out while just riding along. I know that I was. My wife was too. Lights front and back, on the left of the road (inside the yellow line if there was one). Not riding two abreast. Not jumping traffic lights or stop streets. Not doing all the things that irritate other road users.

And I don't just mean here in Cape Town or South Africa, but around the world.
The UK, Europe, Australia and the US all have websites reporting this kind of stuff. It's a world wide issue. Some places are better than others, but we are not alone here.

Drivers just do not accept the responsibility of driving a 1500kg metal box. Phones, rage, impatient. Whatever, it just blinds them

Enough LPR cameras around, surely be able to track this driver down?

His bike is a write off. Luckily he's just shaken and bruised, no lesions. Quite sure it's going to hit him a bit later. Only issue is that it is his TT bike, and he has a race in a months time.
