Wonder what’s going on here….

I dont think I could manage a double loop just yet, and to close to CTCT to attempt, but I'd like to build up to being able to do it.

You and me both.  I could barely manage a single loop on Sunday, cramped up badly.  Those climbs are brutal and never ending.

Double lapping SBR is a rite of passage all cyclists should do at least once 🙂

If you're in Jhb and plan on riding the Epic then double lapping SBR is some of the best prep you can do.

weather is looking crap for sunday, but if its not I'll probably head out there, mates were supposed to join me but as soon as I locked down dates they went very quiet, so I might do it alone.

I want to put my legs to the test, and then see how much work I need to do to be able to double loop it.

Hope it goes well, sterkte, I will give it a shot again in 2 weeks or so.  Will stick to single loops for now until my weight is below 90kg.

I did this last year, except it was Circus - South Gate - Full (big + small) loop - Big loop - Circus. Tough but awesome day out on the bike. I was the only person on a mountain bike (still had the Stache at that time, so 29 x 3.0) so I was dropped ~15min into the ride and rode the rest solo.

It's about pacing more than anything else. If you gooi it up the steeper / longer climbs then you won't make it, but if you have the fitness and gearing to keep it controlled on the climbs, and feed enough, you'll manage. For context, I'm definitely not super strong or super light (I can average ~30kph on a ~1% gradient 1 hour ride on a mountain bike) so it's not impossible.

Anyone know if the circus side gate will be open tomorrow?

According to my Strava feed, it looks like it is open.

Ha ha, no it really isn’t, and also the guards there have NO sense of humour. I eventually had to point out to them exactly what bad shape my companions were in, and that the added 30ks to Heidelberg side would kill them, asked him if he was keen to deal with the admin on that, he didn't seem to find it quite as funny as I did! Matter of fact, neither did the two of them!

Luckily for me this incident played out before any serious climbing or distance in the legs, or I might have been the dead one!
