Sad day for grand tours, a smelly heart rate strap is getting more attention than the most scenic of grand tours.

Switzerland is a postcard, but a little too neat for me...everything in its place...

Italy, is there a better place to visit? History, passionate people, scenery, culture, food, classy, the list is endless...

Thanks, I think?

Glad Alaphilippe got back to winning ways, hope he can keep it up and turn his career around to where he was a few seasons ago.

Today we will see a bunch sprint now doubt. I am backing Groves for the win today. Milan is in fine form but he cannot win them all. close second for Milan.

Veels geluk, Lou-Lou - after many setbacks, becoming a dad and adjusting to that new life chapter, suffering during the Ardennes with a fracture, and rough team politics, he broke away on a apparent suicide attack from the breakaway with 137 kms to go. What a ride by the former double World Champ! Reminiscent of Peter Sagan on one of his final days of glory at the Giro a few seasons ago. There was a line of fellow racers who wanted to congratulate him at the end of the stage yesterday. If that is the general sentiment in the peloton, that says a lot.

Today is a pancake flat stage. Not much to see here, except that mountain of a sprinter in Jonathan Milan, named Jonathan by his mother after she read Richard Bach’s “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” during pregnancy. He pushes that Trek Madone with such force and torque and rock & roll that it seemingly can qualify as a quality assurance stress test of Lidl-Trek's team machine.

Tomorrow is a twisty, flattish race against the clock. Will Tadej back off by 23 watts, conserve his powers for Sunday's queen stage, allowing for national here, Ganna, to trump? Ons sal moet sien.

Note To Self: Sunday afternoon, couch, healthy lunch, pastries, coffee, legs up, my wife is going to have lunch at her cousins', and all eyes on the screen. More than 220 kms and 5200 metres of vert. She is the queen stage.spacer.png

Has the UCI changed its position on this.?

I see Pog is back in the shades of pink skinsuit.

Maybe they won't disqualify him but rather issue a time penalty to keep some interest in the race. 🙃

That is a proper stage.

Ganna for the win tomorrow. We might see a few of the TT specialist exit the race after tomorrow.

Yes, it would appear that sanity has been restored.

Anyone else notice the flare on their bars? Wider than usual or optical illusion?

Someone must have explained to the UCI that Pogi and UAE don’t make the distinctive jerseys/skinsuits, so they are not responsible if Castelli/The Giro ****** it up and if anyone should get a sanction, it’s the organisers

Italian lesson (as it is Friday).

Giro d'Italia

Pronounced:

  • Gi, is pronounced like the letter of the alphabet... G; the Gi is a soft sound.
  • Ro, is pronounced like (Luke) Rowe
  • So think of the two Ineos riders... Gee-Rowe

Then:

  • d'Italia is made up of two words joined together because of two vowels (i & I) adjacent to each other. The small "i" in di (meaning "of") is dropped and replaced with an apostrophe.
  • The d is lowercase, and then Italia is a country, so had the capital "I".
  • It then becomes one word, and pronounced: di-tar-lee-ah (repeat it over, and quicker each  time).
  • It is not di Italia, as in dee   e-tar-lee-ah

also, there is no fancy Zzz on the G... it's a soft sound that English speaking people should know.

Then you just need to add your imaginary Italian accent to make it sound authentic.
