Hi all,

Im currently in the market for a new set of carbon wheels for my epic evo.

Current options are:

Dark horse

Csixx xcm 6 series

Csixx xcm 9 series

Vittoria reaction

Zero two

Nextie

Etc...

Dont know what else there is.

Any suggestions, should i go 27/28/30mm inner width?

Im planning to use it for mostly xc marathons like trailseekers/w2w etc.

Im quite hard on the downhill side so need somethig that climbs fast but can also be trusted.

anything from 25mm to 28mm is ideal for XCo/XCM Stage race wheel set. Wider and the tyres get too square.

What sort of budget do you have ?
You could add South Industries to your list.
Actual stock availability could be a factor in your final choice.

If I were in the market for new carbon wheels, I would probably look at the Csixx XCM 9 on Hope hubs.  I weigh just under 100kg, so am looking for strength and reliability over light weight.

Edit: The Santa Cruz Reserve 27 wheels would feature high up on my list if I was feeling a bit more generous.
There are 2 pairs in Classifieds...

I can gladly give you some options and prices.

Nextie rims are great value and quality, but take 6 weeks to arrive. 3 year warranty, plenty of weight and width options.

South Industries are locally made and are incredible rims - my first choice for carbon MTB wheels. Very good value and lifetime warranty, and available immediately.

Hubs from Hope or DT Swiss are best combination of price, value, reliability and weight.
More affordable options from Lyne or Cure are great value and decent quality.

Boutique options like i9 or Tune can also be had at a premium price.

Get in touch if you need more info.

South industries are pretty much bomb proof. I bought a second hand set of a downhill bike and rebuilt them. Over the last 2 years not even a scratch which I would of had on an aluminium rim. Also there is no weight restriction on South enduro wheels. Just check the other brands if that could be a problem.

Also, you can ask for custom decal colours when buying new.

Given the bike is an epic Evo, I’d want to stay “brand aligned”

Roval would be my default recommendation, with DT Swiss probably the only alternative brand I’d consider.

if money was no object I’d definitely want to experiment with a set of Bike Ahead Composite 6-spoke trail wheels, they look indestructible.
