Which lights above 1000 lumen to buy. Advice please.

Morning all.

I am looking to buy some  new lights. Previously I had 2 x  Ryder 1000 lumen light (one for helmet) with a battery that you charged and then attached to the light on the bike.  Having a brief look online I see  quite a choice now and also USB charge etc.

I am looking for a  minimum of 1000 lumen  and a life of minimum of 3-4 hours on full beam. It's just for night rides and early mornings.  Preferably with the helmet option as I will buy 2, one for bike and one for helmet.

Also a new red back light as I can't find it.

Any recommendations of good ones or ones not to to buy?

Thank you

Simply cannot get better than Extreme Lights. Have been using them for many years and have done 7 TransBaviaanses with them - perfect! Even their service when something does go wrong (wiring in one caused light to switch of on bumps) - was impeccable!!

I use a led lensor torch and mount it with an adapotor (there's a few).  Works amazingly and you get multiple uses for the tourch (ie hiking, game viewing).  It's also lighter than a big battery pack.  It's been a revelation.

Can't rate this setup enough

My 2c regarding this topic: I have quite a few lights, Over the years I have bought a Xeccon (1800 Lumen) and then an Extreme Lights (1000 Lumen) and then recently another 1000 Lumen which I cant recall the name (I gave it away).

My opinion about the various lights:
The 1000 Lumen from EL has quite a narrow beam - I have also used this light on the Baviaans and felt a bit uneasy going down the other side of the never-ender with said light. I wanted more prereferral light even though this light was on full blast. I originally bought this light in 2015 and still have it. The original light blew on the first Baviaans back in 2015 and had to be replaced during the race. (they did not have stock so I had to pull the plug at CP#4). Their after sale service is really good and the replacement light was delivered to my office a week later (free of charge). Currently this light / battery combo is giving some more issues - the battery cable is making a short but I have not bothered to send it in. I will do so before this years Baviaans

The Xeccon - This light I refer to as "The Sun". This thing is extremely bright and I really like it. I bought this back in 2013 and I still have it. Even if I only use the center light it is still brighter and has a wider beam than the EL. In fact, there's currently one for sale: Xeccon light | Bike Hub

The batteries however (I have two), are starting to give issues (which is understandable, considering the age). The one drawback about this light is that it's batteries only lasts 02h23 on full blast (hence why I bought two batteries).

Then the last one I had (which I gave away) was fine, I think I paid like R300 for it so it was just as a back up. The battery on it is lower quality if you look at the pouch but it did the job.

For the back I have a Ryder light with a white and red strobe or red / white on its own. This little thing is damn bright. During the Baviaans in 2019 my EL started giving issues (the battery as mentioned earlier) and I had to use this little thing for the last 5km and I could see 😁

As mentioned by Robert, check the beam width. Depending on what you're using it for your needs might differ.

I have the Lezyne Smart 1000XL on my road bike. Very happy with it at speeds below 30km/h, over that and I feel there is not enough light.

What I like about it though is that turning the headlight on also turns the tail light on, and also you can customise the 4 modes and there sequence to your needs.

I still have an original EL (from when they only traded on bidorbuy)

Replaced the battery under warranty and its still going 6 years later.

My only gripe is the strobe function. I would rather just switch between high/low, its a pain to cycle the modes when you start heading down and need more light

I have the same combo, must be a Greek thing…

Nice lights, solid with good runtime but only 1h30 at 1000 lumens.

Possibly that one on the helmet, but the OP is looking for a 1000 lumen light (or two)

I use the Bontrager Ion Pro RT light for road and MTB. 1300 lumen on my bars.
I suppose it could go on your helmet too.

The extreme lights combo looks pretty good:

Perhaps run a Ryder light on your helmet:

I don't know how many lights will run full beam for 4 hours though.
Do you need full brights for the full ride ?
