American Flyers Posted May 20, 2022 Share I am getting frustrating because most of back red lights are not waterproof and everytime I cycled on wet road or in the rain, the light died because water gets in it. Which one is 100% waterproof?

Have been caught in some monster down pours and its still working faultlessly.

wattnow Posted May 20, 2022 Share Bontrager Flare RT. Still one of the best. Daylight visibility from claimed 2km away. Never ride without it. Been caught in the rain, wet roads, some mud when riding offroad, no problems. Keanenreeve, mikkelz, biketcoza and 1 other
cadenceblur Posted May 20, 2022 Share Have experience with both the Bontrager flare r and the Garmin and they are both great options. The varia is a bit more pricey though but has added benefits
lechatnoir Posted May 20, 2022 Share My first vote is the Garmin Varia - offers much much more than a simple light. 2nd vote goes to the Flare - it's a good light. Both of these are said to be visible from 1km - expect to be blinded when you take it out the package from just 30cm!! NicholasT

Which one is 100% waterproof? I don't know who can guarantee 100% waterproof... But, I have had good experience with this little guy. I use it with the saddle rail mount, so its more compact and neater. Edit: Having said that, if I was to get a new light, I would pony up and get that Bontrager Flare to match my headlight. https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/recon-tl-100-2020 https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/recon-tl-200-100-saddle-rail-mount-2020 Review: https://road.cc/content/review/269121-giant-recon-tl-100 Edited May 21, 2022 by splat

NC_lurker Posted May 21, 2022 Share I'm pretty partial to the Blackburn lights. Especially after accidentally putting one through the washing machine with no ill effects! Eddy Gordo

Ah the old washing machine test, it is one of my favourites. my Garmin hrm survived a few washes, but eventually died. My polar hrm died after one wash. I haven’t washed the wahoo one yet. A few weeks ago I washed a Toyota Corolla key fob, just before I was about to take the car back to the airport in Houston and fly back home. Luckily it survived. Frosty Posted May 22, 2022 Share I’ve also had my share of rear light problems. The current one from Decathlon has been working well lately. https://www.decathlon.co.za/bike-lights/145705-34735-cl-100-led-usb-rear-bike-light.html?utm_source=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.decathlon.co.za%2F&utm_medium=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.decathlon.co.za%2F&utm_campaign=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.decathlon.co.za%2F&sfdr_ptcid=35079_617_678723905&sfdr_hash=6aaee2264f0a75055ffc085613815870&gbraid=0AAAAACVrjUb0Ye7Rjgmj0mKb8Asw-eTBF&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvqeUBhCBARIsAOdt45Z2dfKNXpwcYw69rPiSJ4JIu3yfm-I31XQOWk2cQkj6JxuPSOGzGkMaAhb6EALw_wcB#/155-demodelsize-254no_size/15557-demodelundefined-8560549
guidodg Posted May 22, 2022 Share Bontrager Flare RT Awesome little light...can be controlled by a Garmin head unit and shows status and battery % on the Garmin. Light comes on automatically when you start recording a ride and goes off when you pause the ride. I have the headlight too.. https://www.trekbikes.com/za/en_ZA/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-lights/bike-rear-lights/bontrager-flare-rt-rear-bike-light/p/23999/ splat and biketcoza
