That is a quick release. It can operate with no grease at all, but I would normally grease mine and any grease will work. It only serves a clamping function and there is no rational parts in direct contact with it, so any grease you have knocking about will do the job.

If it fell in the sand. Just throw in the dishwasher or clean with warm soap water. Spray a little Q20, chain lube or any grease you have around just stops the rust.

Dont use the dishwasher - unless you want it to pit with corrosion and fail. A high pH is a bugger on aluminium parts

Just wash it with warm water and a bit of soap as you suggest. Then rinse it afterwards with clean water and dry it. Adding q20 or any other kind of lube will only retain the dirt that gets in there. Rather keep it dry from anything as its not a part used on moving items but rather through moving items.

My wife also told me to stop using the dishwasher for bike parts. Guess it's not the chain lube on the cutlery.

I'll buy that. High heat, pressure and soap are good to clean the sweat and grime off a lidpot

High (quick rising) heat and a high pH level soap however are not mates for alloys and aluminium

If you have to ask what grease to use, it's better that you don't do your own work on your bike(s). If you do, there's a thread that could help when things go wrong; just click here.

Thanks guys, yea it seems like a dumb question but been a dedicated rider in the past never ever did i have to put new grease on a quick release skewer ever.

I think i am just going to rub it clean with a cloth and add a thin layer of bns grease which i have to buy or castrol 80W -90 transmission fluid ? As i have it with me.but maybe its too runny so maybe i will get the grease thanks.

Reason to use lube/grease is just to prevent possible rust over a long time (not going to ride in mud or rain) but maybe in some dust.....Once clamped dust should not be able to get in there ?

I mean it did not have dust on it when taken out and it was a little greased.

I wouldnt grease a Quick release at all

Give it a wash with warm soapy water or some Isopropyl alcohol

Any grease there is just going to attract dirt

Some of them Squeak (Creaking Noise)  Without Grease at the rear Wheel.

A Little Grease Inside does no harm.
