Elapsed Time versus Moving Time

Set watch to auto stop and start.  That way you'll always know how long you are out RIDING your bike.

The only place where auto start/stop won't play nice is if you are doing timed events and you chase a certain goal wrt time.  (As Ryan pointed out above)

Moving time. I had to this on the weekend. It was mostly fun because we had some beginners and crashes along the way.

The way I see it:

If I leave home at 06:00 and return at 11:00 then my riding time was 5 hours regardless of the amount of time I spent physically pedalling the bike.

but if you shuttle to the top of a mountain and spend 60 minutes freewheeling to the bottom hardly even turning the pedals at all does it really count ?

You had 60 minutes of fun though.

Obviously you count the shuttle time as well because you were all dressed up to ride and near your bike 🤪

So if I commute to work and back that's a 9 hour ride?

There's no point in tracking time spent doing an activity if you play fast and loose with your definition of the activity.
