Hi All,

I am writing this with a bit of concern, a fellow cyclist came across a mountain biker who had fallen at Bloemendal Trail Park. When they tried to call the emergency number on the back of the board, it went to voicemail. Has anyone experienced this?

When he went down to the Bloemendal Club House, they refused to help and said they don't get involved and should call ER24. I find this unacceptable, yes we ride those trails at your own risk but to have to rely solely on fellow cyclists makes my blood boil.

This is more of a post to to share my concern and frustration.

What might of been easier is to remove the board and then out of nowhere a marshal will appear tell him you didn't pay and they'll gladly escort you off the mountain

...sorry to hear about your ordeal, do keep ER24 number anyway and call them. This is a people thing not just a Tygerberg MTB club thing... There are a few people out there that are willing to help, but the general shrug of the shoulders not my problem is nothing un common.

Afternoon. It is always unfortunate to hear of any rider coming off and getting hurt. As for the emergency number we had printed on the back of our 2022 membership boards, this is the number for MSCA Search and Rescue. Their number changed during the past year, and is currently no longer in use. Their new number is being used on all the 2023 boards - as per the image attached.  Speedy recovery to the rider.

So why did you cycle past all the signs reminding you to buy a permit/board only to find a marshall just appearing out of thin air reminding you again because you did not read the signs?

Or is accessing private land without permission your hobby?

Shame I hope the big guy is OK. Seemed like a proper back injury and the paramedics didn't take any chances. He must have been laying there for an hour before they arrived.

The bike park should have a SOP for this type of thing. Many broken bones there in the last few months.

He seemed to be on the wrong trail judging by the long stem xc bike and must have gone off the big drop off without the required technique.. If the other riders didn't find him and stop me I would have landed on him as I was 2 min behind.

I was storming down the Hoogekraal Cobra this morning and at the bottom by the rock roll I'm met by a XC rider standing on the line, preventing me from riding, and nonchalantly asks me if I'm going to ride that line and could I show him how.

Ek sê eerder niks korporaal. Netnou kry ek straf.

I've got a pet hate for people standing ON THE OBSTACLE that intimidates them resulting in a ruined ride for others.

Maybe the lycra tigers can go ride the skills park and other less intimidating lines first to learn what to do with the bicycles when things get a bit more tech than tar, gravel or berms.

I digress. Now where did I leave my beer?

Speedy recovery to the rider and get the correct contact details on the back of their board in future. Some of the above comments got absolutely nothing to do with this thread. Some riders get injured on the trails and some riders get injured practicing manuals on tar.

Accidents do happen to the best.

Cheers - nou waar is my Lycra bibs?

it doesnt matter if you pay. You still get hounded! I had this incident a few weeks ago. Told the Marshall to go check the honesty box.

I dont know of any trails where you get medical assistance or recovered. You are left on your own. It is handy to have er24 number.

Even 4x4 courses do not have recovery vehicles on hand if you get stuck.

I'm am pretty sure that Bloemendale Bike Park is legally required to have trained first aiders and the necessary first aid equipment available.

Just like a public pool is legally required to have life guards.

They cannot just shrug their shoulders and say they don't get involved.

I am 99% certain Meezo posted his comments tongue-firmly-in cheek. Maybe re-read his post.

I’m a 100% certain. I’ve spent quite a bit of time there recently and not had any question me. Must just be lucky…

I think you completely misunderstood the context of Meezo's post.
