Start was a f-up of note, but once we got rolling it was great.

Luckily we planned to fall back and do a DC team ride anyway, so not that much hard done - hope the times are adjusted based on actual start 🤞.

Enjoyed the new route, think its an improvement.

@mikkelz, are you in Infinity? If so, thanks for being gracious and not interfering with our paceline. We really appreciated it

Also enjoyed the route!

No, I'm not in a team/club but saw a bunch of Infinity riders too. I think you guys (Cape Multisport) stopped for a puncture before Stellenbosch, I rode up Hels on my own and then hung onto Infinity from Boschendal to Wemmershoek where I think you caught up again.

But yeah, I definitely stayed at the back of both groups so as not to interfere. 👌

You looked well organised.

A 1.2km single lane jeep track leading to one car park access point with hundreds of cars expected.

Not rocket science to realise that it was going to be a b@lls up.

Nice day for it though.

Not fit enough to really post a nice time but enjoyed the first 100km before I had to let the group go.

Thank you to all involved. We really enjoyed the short route. did not really get involved in the after race aspects so cannot comment on that.

Just always amaze me the amount of coordination, planning and people involved in such an event.

Ok. After reading some of the comments.. luckiky we were nearly late for our start so by then the parking was. Not so much of an issue and I liked the new timing chips but did not realised they just temp...  i liked the position than trying to find a spot on your handlebars.  The fact that they temp is not so good.

Parking stuff up - Honestly more angry at myself than at PPA, not the first time they host a road race at a wine farm and then the parking turns out to be shambles (nor the last time). I knew I should have been there early but somehow only got to the venue 20 minutes before my start and obviously I had to start 6 groups later.

Timing chips - As I have it the permanent ones are ordered and will be available at the CTCT, I also don't know why we can't use the temp ones more than once.

Also a bit annoying that we can't see our times vs our starting groups on Finishtime. Cannot think that this should be that hard to implement.

Oh, and the race was tough, challenging & enjoyable as usual. Probably my fav road event outside the CTCT. Doing Bothmas 130(?)km in was very tough, Helz on warmed up legs was better experience.

And obviously FinishTime is so *** they don't adjust the start time for when you actually started, so I'm over 10 mins slower which for a seeding event after busting your balls for 170kms is just not on.

Emailed them and PPA for what it's worth.

Rants were a bit premature, both these issues have since been resolved. Live timing is way better than racetec ever was, they then just have to cleanup & categorize everything afterwards which understandably takes time.

Lol, is FinishTime your system? 🙄

What is the benefit to "live timing"?

And my start time is not "fixed". It's manually set to group F's start time.

Every other timing chips I've used (RaceTec) and the foil temporary ones FinishTime uses for running gives you your start time when crossing the start.

The chips today did not do that.

I can rant as much as I like by the way.

Take a chill pill Michael nobody said you can't rant as much as you like. No it's not my timing system & have no affiliation either just a long time racer, +20 years.

Well mine was fixed, maybe they'll still get to yours. I was initially seeded in A but started in F. My initial time when I checked shortly after the finish was 15mins more compared to now. The benefits of "live timing" as in your time is immediately available when you cross the line this was never available with racetec. Helps with placings for podiums etc.

🥱 Don't quote my posts saying what I said was premature, when it wasn't.

You like FinishTime, I don't.

These wine estates suck when it comes to cycling venues, and it's not the 1st time.

Racetec chips and results worked perfectly fine all the years, finish time results portal needs a make over / upgrade.

The 170km guys should start 1st.

Organizer needs to consider a few changes for future.

One aspect in which the chips and the little rubber doodat ziptied to the seatpost agree ... I am the oke putting the curve on the bell curve.

I think I now have about 5 or 6 different timing thingies, half of which are redundant. Just waiting for the day I pitch at some event with the wrong dinges velcroed in the wrong place.
