Day 31/31 (507/500) - Single Speed December 😎

As my very first 'big boss' Hans Eberle, a man amongst men, would have said 'Alles klaar ja!'

Met my goals, maybe not as far or as quick as some but I am happy that I am able to do it and maybe more important still want to do it 😎

It's not a chore 😁

I said there'd be a giant cookie!

Check with Woodstock Cycle Works (now in Obs). They used to have some that they had made up specially.

The trouble with real leather bartape is that if you want to make it, you have to buy a whole skin of the right type of leather from Woodheads. Then you have to cut it into ribbons and if you really want to do a great job, make perforations too. For that you need a specialised little machine, because it is simply impossible to do it precisely enough by hand. Right next to where Woodstock Cycleworks used to be in Searle Street, was a business called Velobrien (Gareth O’Brien) who could do this kind of thing perfectly. He did some saddle work for me a few years ago. If someone wanted leather bartape bad enough for a restoration or a cool ss build, Garteth would make it and end up with many rolls of tape that they could sell through Woodstock Cycleworks. That's how I found mine.

Thanks for the info, i got mine in Qatar at a craftman's place...camel hide...has taken a beating for 3 years and yeah its the scarfing down and then the holes that take time...there's a leather guy in S Town I saw a few days back near the Lord Nelson who may be able to run up some tape...he does belts so its just a bit thinner and I don't mind if the edges are the same thickness so no edge scarfing...just means wrap is a little thicker..no issues..cheers!

To the workshop stand ....

It has become a habit to give all my bikes a full service at the start of the year ... making sure everything is sorted for the World Champs season.

. Gravel bike .... servicing a one year old is always easy .... more of a deep clean

. Hardtail ... This is my Argus bike, so needs to be tip top shape ... I bought it as a demo and have done 11 000 km in 5 years on it.  The steerer bearings is noisy, I could not get spares last year ... chain on that cusp of early replacement .... wheel bearings cleaned and repacked.  Brake pads about 1,5mm, okay, but dont want it to catch me off guard the night before a race .... brake discs, ooooops !! Below the Shimano minimum .... brakes works fine, but there IS a reason for the minimum disc thickness !

I have had brakes overheat, then just loose all braking on a steep downhill ... nasty off and a few hours in the medic tent .... weeks later it was traced back to discs that were worn below the minimum thickness.

. Full suss .... not too much I can do .... from the suspension to the sealed bearings are all done by Mark.

Yes, sealant clean and top up for all.
