Where has your bike taken you today?

Did the Blue route at Contermanskloof today, with Maritz ... testing his 8-speed group-set (upgraded from the standard 7-speed, giving him 18% better low end for those long hills...)

Slow and steady up the first section, to where the Black and Blue routes split .... for a second he was game for heading up the black route.   :whistling:

Heading down and down he was enjoying himself ... blissfully unaware of what was coming ....

Past the dam, and then it was time for the climb through the first vineyard ... last year he managed a few step-ups before walking the rest.  This time he grunted for the last two, but cycled all the way to the top !

We rode to the split .... shortcut back, or up ?  He turned his bike and led the way UP ...

At the fence I was happy that we managed to get to the top, and we took some more pics.

I got a bit of a scare when the trail made a U-turn, and I saw an A-frame over the fence ... we are heading further up ...    Maritz did so well up to this point, but just how far can a 7 year old climb and climb .... after the A-frame the climb leveled out a bit, and Maritz dropped 2 gears and I had to give a few kicks to keep up.  WOW !! What a view from the very top !!  Around the koppie, and then down through the trees ....

Milkshake at Dairyshed .... Oooo shed ... They are closed until 2 January  .....

What a nice ride !!  And thanks to all the riders out on the trail that took a moment to encourage Maritz.

Some nice bikes on that rack.

Does the Factor belong to a Hubber?

As I was admiring the bikes on that rack I couldn't help but think how out of place my Axis would look between those beauties. [emoji1]

So after a few certain posts from @'Dale recently I got so lus for a road ride that I decided to dust of the roadbike, lube the chain and set out for a not so early morning ride this morning.

Edit: Credit where credit is due, that first pic was inspired by a few of @DJR 's recent posts.

More dust, more wind, more heat - looking forward to getting back home and riding without drying out my eyeballs

Brings back accurate memories that bleddy Oesterbaai - St Francis gravel. No big climbs; how hard can this be?  Well the road is rough as the proverbial bear's bum and dusty with it then the wind is always from voor but doesn't touch the heat. Eish; much beer was drunk.

Took a drive out to the otherside of the boerewors curtain with the missus, made sure we had our passports.

First time out at Buffelsdrift, and the place does not disapoint. Had great aspirations of doing the full red route, but ran out of legs and water, so when the "shortcut home" board came up, we hightailed it back.

All in, a great route, work on the climbs to be rewarded with fast, flowy technical downs. E23F6847-A296-4BCD-92F6-3A455109674B.jpeg

Will go back soon to ride the 13km we missed. 786E2747-C508-4224-AC9F-8784A79DB510.jpeg
