DJR Posted April 11, 2020 Share Since pictures of the IDT are rather boring, I thought I'd share some of my favourite oldies. Most of them are somewhere earlier in this thread, so I hope you don't mind, or that your memory isn't all too sharp. If nothing, it'll hopefully serve as an inspiration to keep riding the IDT and to get out there as soon as we are allowed again. ChrisF Posted April 11, 2020 Share Time to reflect on what we took for granted .... HAZENDAL (pre-revamp) ... THIS is where is all started for Maritz and I ... and what a humble start ... and true to his nature ... straight for the mud .... 14 days later it was time for a 20'' ... and no more training wheels .... grass next to CWC. That Makro TOTEM is still at his parents house, and still used for riding around the street. MANY of his friends have learnt to ride on that bike !! That cheapy has served us well. And then I got brave ... my first MTB ... a second hand HT .... NO, Burry Stander is not fun on a HT .... The Merida was promptly traded in for the TREK .... And Maritz and I did our first 12km ride at Hermanus trails the week before his 6th birthday .... jip, good few stops for sweets and to stretch the legs, but the 5 year old finished his 12km ride, without once pushing his bike. Our first event .... Willow Creek .... the 10km route was closer to 13km .... the last 3km were brutal for Maritz .... But he soldiered on, and refused to get help from the sweeper vehicle !!! Looking at the photos, ... those were some brutal trails for a rigid 20'' bike ... After this we knew Maritz was committed to trails, and we bought the Momsen .... Time to invest in a coach and some skills training, for Maritz .... though I learnt as much ... 2018 Maritz joined the SPUR series .... though his first ride was rained out .... at least the sub-nippers race was called off. Later they allowed the sub-nippers to join the practice laps .... Maritz QUICKLY got back into his drenched cycling clothes and enjoyed the route to the max !! We loved our weekend rides at Meerendal My personal little milestone .... cycling up Dorstberg on my 50th with some friends .... 2019 I started doing solo rides on Sundays, with the normal Saturday rides with Maritz. Doing Swartberg under my own steam will always be my high light ... Getting to the trails AT sunrise, autumn, spring, what a year... OUR last ride together - 28 December 2019 MY last ride - 16 January 2020 ... Red route of Hermanus trails ... With my knees slowly recovering I cant wait to get some trail dust on this lovely Blue Beast Edited April 12, 2020 by ChrisF Andrew_Smith, DJR, BSG and 7 others

Charlie600 Posted April 11, 2020 Share Ke nako, feel it is here! - absolutely loving the start to the European summer! Although I do miss ripping it up at SA's beautiful trails, this is now our life (at least for another 2-3 years or so)! Robbie Stewart Posted April 11, 2020 Share I've started envisioning turning my yard into to a few rollers, berms and the odd jump or two. Now, how to convince my wife we don't need a lawn...hmmmmmSome inspiration that got me to this point: ...and then I woke up and realised I was dreaming.
