Must say I'm just a tad bit jealous of you all you peeps who have ridden or are out riding today. First day back at work for me :cursing:

but it's Saturday. Back on Monday. These 3 weeks off have been bliss though.

First ride of 2016. From home in the Southern Suburbs to Melkbos and back. Woodbridge island lagoon was full of flamingos this morning. I always wonder at how such ungainly long legged, long necked, broom like things can fly, and fly well enough to migrate to East Africa and back.

What route did you take from southern suburbs to the lagoon?

hahaa we need someone taking pics of you in said positions.

what gets me is how your bike balances so perfectly with just a little rock under the wheel. The number of times my bike has fallen over while trying to position it for a shot :(

^_^ I've got some pics of me sneakily taken a mate at King's a few weeks back... I'll share when I find them.

Re the bike balancing thing... It's very important to to get this right, to make it look like there's nothing hold the bike up... this, takes time!! In these pics the little rock was there to stop the bike rolling back... what you can't see, or really see, is the stick holding the bike up :whistling:

Went to ouberg pass today, first missed the turn off, while smoking down the hill cut my tyre after about 400m of descent. Next time will do the pass down and up.

Luckily made it to the top with a plastic bag and tube, where got picked up by the GF

Blue and green route at Ritevlei yesterday, seems the river crossings section is closed off atm, maintenance or summing.

Then this morning Thaba green route. Man that climbing is no joke in the heat, and running out of water with 5kms to go is a recipe for failure. Had a leke chat to Wendel at the shop after, what a humble dude

Some of those technical climbs are mental! :-)

Hi DJR, at the Mosselbay Water Treatment plant (sewer plant) there also is a lot of Flamingos, quite strange I think to see them around here.

I'm starting to think they are vermin. There's a pond on the final approach for ORT in benoni that has flamingos often. I think the area is called bardene.

I have learnt to balance the bike in such a way that the South Easter will blow it onto the non-drivetrain side. An important adaptation to make if you want to take pictures of precariously balanced bikes in the Cape! :D  :D

Along Main Road through Observatory, then right in Durham Road to the Salt River circle and along Albert Road to the Old Brewery. Then right into Lower Church street and on the bridge left onto the cycle path from the Church Street Bus Station. I wait at the station for another cyclist or a group to come past and then I join them for the dodgy stretch to Paarden Eiland. From there I happily ride alone again all the way to Melkbos and beyond. Coming back I join a fellow rider again through Paarden Eiland and I stay wide awake near the Old Biscuit Mill 9especially on a Saturday) because of the very congested traffic in the area. The way people drive when they are looking for parking is just bad for my health!

I went up Rotary Drive above Hermanus a day or two ago, lovely view and also beautiful fynbos. Pity about the fire on New Years day (started after 11 pm on the 31 st, so one can wonder about the flares and the chinese lanterns). Fortunately the water chopper managed to stop the flames.

Tranquilitas Adventure Farm near Waterval Boven.. a Really lekker place with awesone trails.. Not what you would call endurance riding as the longest trail is only 12km,but very picturesque.
