It is a long read.

Scroll halfway down, where DC adds and discuss the fact that Strava is steadfast in their aim to lock out other apps.

It is scary that almost only Garmin owners can carry on on their own, and directly to some of the other apps.  I did not realise how much of the market built their model onto Strava only ....

There a few other apps like fitnesssyncer https://www.fitnesssyncer.com/about/ or Tapiriik https://tapiriik.com/, else you can set up free accounts on Trainingpeaks, Final Surge or intervals.icu to have all your data as they work with most fitness devices and have the potential to sync to other platforms

The story of the big bad wolf comes to mind... and now, we have the huffing and puffing.

another story that comes to mind is that of the golden-egg goose. how many swings of the hatchet does Strava need? I mean, they've been hacking and hacking for some time now.

Then again, building your 'everything' on Strava reminds me of 2 out of 3 piggies.

Imagine if Garmin had seamless integration into their ecosystem...?

From DC Rainmaker it sounds like very few devices can load to anything but Strava.

Or, devices like Polar has limited platforms, without the ability to further export ....

Sounds like some serious headscratching for the role players.

Thankful that Garmin Connect satisfies my limited needs.

It's more to do with the watches like samsung, amazefit, google etc and then onwards to other platforms via strava rather than the major players of Garmin, Apple, Suunto & Polar that can go directly to the likes of Trainingpeaks etc. Trainingpeaks you can see the list of devices https://www.trainingpeaks.com/upload/

It seems like they have got this wrong again.

You can't build another Strava easily, they should do everything to keep themselves as the only game in town for fitness data.

So what is 3rd party apps are leaning on their systems and making decent money, start offering their functionality and do it better.

At least ProBikeGarage can still update from the API. That's the only real reason I use Strava, to log miles on my bikes and components to know service intervals and what was done last, when, by whom, on what etc.

I updated to the Pro Subscription shortly before I purchased my Garmin, so I'm not sure I'll be renewing when it expires next year.

My Garmin account directly linked to Intervals.icu and not via Strava.

Suddenly, Intervals.icu not pulling in my most recent (today) activity.  I hope it's just a glitch!!!

Reading this makes me wonder if it’s not time to go back to the simple life…..like when I used to run with a Timex Iron Man indiglo with electroluminescent lighting and track my training by recording the times in a diary…. Distances where mostly a thumb suck or measured by driving the route, unless it was a club TT or race.

Elevation / meters climbed, heart rate, watts……….Pfffft
