After years of having a Fenix, the new range does not float my boat. On reflection I don’t need a fancy screen, diving metrics, or microphone etc. so opted for the new enduro 3.

does everything I need, loooooonnnggggg battery life and has 95% of the functionality of the large Fenix for around 70 percent of the price.

Sadly I think the Enduro 3 is basically just a revised Fenix 7/7 Pro in a way. And if you want the pretty AMOLED then you have to shill out more $$$ for the Fenix 8. Which might be Garmin's way to make you spend more $$$.

I think that 99% of current Fenix owners wont use the dive functions to its full potential in the 8. And unless I am wrong, the microphone and new HR sensor are the only other significant improvements. Which is a shame because I'm sure the cost increase is mainly due to the dive functions. R25k seems crazy for the 8. It's nearly the price of a luxury watch and I won't even be able to give it to my kids...

Luckily however, Garmin makes devices that tend to last, so at least we can still hold onto our previous Gen Fenix's for now.

Unfortunate really, I was hoping for a few really nifty improvements so I could pick up a 2 year old 7X Pro for a steal in the classifieds.

My 5X will have to keep on keeping on for another while then I guess (not that there's anything wrong with it, just upgrade-itis).

I recently bought the Garmin Instinct Crossover from Takealot on a good deal and I'm chuffed with it. I don't need a mobile phone on my wrist. All I want is a device to record my training metrics. I spent R7k and it does what I expect from it. I can't see any reason to spend more than three times that on the F8

How is the strap on it?  I'm also opting for it because I hate charging stuff and I'm never going to talk to my watch or dive. But the strap is looking kind of poef. Suppose I can quickly google replacement straps for it.

The nylon strap is surprisingly comfortable. I have some replacement 26 silicone straps but have not used them yet as the nylon one is excellent. Have even ordered another nylon too. Not tried it swimming yet but I guess it would be ok too.

Yuppies are yuppies ... you will still get the odd "2 year old" listed as the yuppies upgrade just for the sake of upgrading ...

That's good to hear!
I'm still on the fence between the Enduro and the Fenix Solar though. I just like the look of the Fenix more but I don't need the extras.

Both are awesome devices. Can’t really go wrong with Garmin.

big ticket purchases so make the choice you going to be happy with.

Thats true. I’m on my 3rd Fenix 3 at the moment so this will also be something that I use for a long time so I’m going to have to be sure.
