I read on facebook now that Mr Swenson is out of the epic due to an injury obtained during training a few weeks ago… Where does that leave Matt Beers now? Will they find him another team mate on such short notice?

Unfortunately I assume that the numbers tell you this and that your statement is based on fact and not just hope, but it also reminds me of the comments re Burry Stander - his 'numbers' were elite, but not the best.

But Burry maximised everything else, including the belief that he had as much right to win as the rest - I loved watching him race both XCO and the Epic - 100% committed to what he had,

Wishing you all the best with your race season coming up.

sad news. Wonder if Matt is gonna find a last minute replacement. How’s the legs looking @Sid the Sloth? 😉

So accident happened back home and he has been traveling, training and racing since only for an MRI to reveal...?

In the ideal medical environment, the professional athlete would go for a full scan battery after hitting a car door. Too many athletes ignore symptoms and/or body signals that are not quite regular or routine.

Not inferring this is the case here. Just see it far too often as part of the high-performance medical teams I am part of.

This is a real dilemma for the multiple winner in Matt Beers with a handful of weeks to go.

whoaaah. part of the teamsport challenge is getting to the startline with a fit team. In the days of yore, there would be backup teams and then a shift in personnel with someone elevated.

Phone must be buzzing at SpezHQ - still enough time to work something out here.

Guessing there's a few reasons for that - denial (not wanting to face the reality of a period of recovery and the loss of fitness and opportunity it involves), minds that are well trained to override pain/distress signals from the body, deep conviction borne of experience and training that their bodies are powerfully resilient and that pain wears off ...
