Obviously, it is a type of bread; Pita bread…

(though Pita bread can be a Pain In The Ass to find, sometimes…)

Chris

Proper Pita bread yes, my folks used to bring 5-10 packs in their luggage every time they went to Greece.
you can get Greek pita bread here in some places, but it’s just not the same for some reason.

Reasonably noisy hubs on the mtb around here are “kind of beneficial”. I don’t need to worry about getting scolded for “not using” or “using” my bell from uppity Constantia walkers on the green belts… It would be nice, however, if it was totally silent. Nothing but the sound of tires and suspension and chain slap on downhills.

This

Noisy hubs / free wheel are useful to warn pedestrians that you are approaching from behind, when you have to share paths with bladdy pedestrians, dog walkers, horse riders etc

You sound like a motor biker with a loud exhaust. They use the same justification.

and then they sit at a traffic light on a Sunday revving the valves out of the engine and think everyone is enjoying the racket.

I was riding up the west coast cycle path yesterday and caught up to a bunch of roadies riding at a relaxed pace. As we approached the northern end by Melkbos there were riders coming from the opposite side, so we ended up rolling single file for perhaps the final 400 or so meters. I was behind one chap who had a real obnoxious hub and he just kept on coasting and freewheeling in the bunch, giving it the odd pedal to maintain the momentum.

It really was a proper PITA. I immediately thought of this thread while I was trapped behind him. That, and the tosser behind me who kept on thumbing his bell at me to inform me he wanted past, except there was nowhere to go.

My Spaz doesn’t have a motor, exhaust or valves that bounce, but occasionally the rider can generate a loud stomach rumble or f… if required

The only benefit what i can see ok hear is that i know when a person is sitting in the draftzone during a non draft tri. other than that you can just as well stick a playing card on your frame and let it make a noise against the spokes.

on this mornings group ride I had a quite chuckle at the sound of a fellow riders hub

we were going just the right speed, at just the right distance from a wall, with me just the right distance away from him, that for a brief second or 2,  his hub sounding like a duck quacking
