possible yes - Most dangerous area is the section on the trails and dirt on the mountain above CBD - sporadic incidents there - I would ride that bbut I would be cautious in that area.

Very possible and I've done it a few times.....up Houtbay Road from Constantia Nek round about, rather ride the gravel trail on the left side than on the road! Keep a wary eye near the Rhodes Monument section.....that trail above the CBD appears to be the old Tafelberg Road...it is an abandoned tar road until the cement barriers but still very rideable...never seen anything funny except the odd suspects meeting inflagrante delico in their cars on the remaining road after the barriers!!! ...And at the top of Suikerbossie, you can take a turn up the embankment on the left then down to the gate of the Ruyterplaas estate there...the guards will let you thru, ask for the right turning and you'll go along the public access road of what used to be the Old Victorskloof road, they will remotely open a gate at the other end and you drop down to World of Birds in Valley Road...

very lekker ride with some challenging climbs

Some of it in reverse

Another Woodstock bridge mugging this morning.

friends of mine riding in a group outbound, guy grabbed a phone. They chased him and somehow got it back. Around 8am.

Was hoping this was largely a thing of the past. ☹

We were inbound just before 8 and outbound around 10.

Guess we were lucky ...

Pedal Power Association Stay Wider of the Rider: Please ride in groups and stay extra vigilant in hotspot areas, it is best to avoid these areas. A cyclist was attacked along the R304 yesterday at the traffic light at Welgevonden Estate. Four criminals approached the cyclistand one attempted to stab him so  to avoid the action he fell, they made offwith his bike, phone and bank card. Please avoid the Cloetesville area and ride in groups. Report all attacks to SAPS and send info to wesley@pedalpower.org.za, we need the information to act !

I stay in Welgevonden, and it feels like nearly every week there's another incident of bicycle theft on the R304 & R44. I'd recommend all riders to stay clear of the area for a while or ride in big groups, but stick together.

Is anyone aware of any incidences in the last year on Newmarket St between the Castle and the Lower Church St Bridge? Or even Sir Lowry?

Assume everyone started using the N1 to avoid the hotspots on Newmarket / Sir Lowry. Are the odds now better the other way around?

I have not heard of attacks on that stretch - not long ago there were attacks on the Woodstock stretch, particularly in early dawn and pre-dawn hours.

Others?

But what is the alternative?

How else does one get back after having coming  through Camps Bay or how does get to Camps Bay etc.
It looks like Dennis was already taking an alternative route?

I recently went through town past the castle, how long until that too becomes unsafe.

Don't know the routes but understand about lack of alternatives and now even these getting dangerous...but uninformed cyclists are still using the known dangerous routes...so until the situation can be safely resolved, why can the COCT not erect big road side signs warning of the dangers before you get there? I suppose they would then be too busy having to keep up with the shifting patterns of crime!?

The city will then soon be littered with these signs

What an indictment

Another cyclist passed away this morning on Chappies... Still early and no details.

It appears this ends when we are all in a grave... 😠

From what I’ve seen a bus was turning right into a viewpoint as the cyclists were descending at speed. This is just what I’ve read. I don’t have a dog in the fight but someone must have under- or over- estimated what the other was doing or not seen the other at all.
