Thank you very much for all the replies. I will definitely try out the Devon Valley Rd. Looking at Google Maps, I was not sure if this route runs through private property, especially around the JC le Roux Estate. But apparently not. Thanks, guys.

Red Circle is a gate you just need to navigate around if it is closed. it is also the start of the short gravel sector which ends at the other blue arrow +-500m's short. Red arrow is tar but a nasty Mother. Just be weary of the descend to Bottelary road as the road is in a bad state especially flying downhill at speed.

The Bottelary accident happened around 9am. A group of riders, including Hennie (Wiele) Wentzel and Andre (Dippies) Dippenaar and others got clipped by a drunk driver. He hit Piet's bar with his side mirror and the whole lot hit the deck. Wiele has a deep cut in his leg and Dippies was taken to hospital suffering with concussion. The drunk driver tried to make a getaway and was chased by a youngster and his wife in the car behind that witnessed it. They managed to get the car stopped and took away his keys and took him back to the scene. They waited for well over an hour for any cops to arrive on the scene.

any updates on this one? Driver get charged?

6:40am, 25 yr old in a sports car. dents cop car and chases away.

tests 3 times over the limit.

calls a buddy to come help. ha ha

2 things

1) high speed chase and what looks like a Toyota corolla do not go together. Drunk lighty must have been driving really crap to have been caught by a cop in a corolla

2) we have a very serious problem with alcohol abuse in this country. And its openly bragged about and displayed in most social circles.  Not sure what the solution is, but whatever it is we're not doing it.

Indeed , and every festive season there’s shock around the road death toll.
There should be random breathalyser tests or something, roadblocks which are few and far between these days are clearly ineffective.

I enjoyed the delicious but as you observe, far too rare, frisson of schadenfreude a couple of weekends ago - a ferrari driver being walked back to the traffic cops vehicle while his red, no number plate narcissus mobile sat in the layby opposite the turnoff to Llandudno.

There's always a well publicized "blitz" of road blocks and some public arrests for drink driving around the 2nd week of December and then it all goes quiet. All the traffic police also want to go on leave over Christmas.

Exactly - I find it startling that despite the size of the problem - the evidence is clearly there that not enough is actually done to address it. one would expect the roads to be teaming with traffic officials.

We live in HB so we're fortunate enough to have chappies within easy walking distance. My wife and I once went for a saunter up there on a Sunday afternoon. The amount of people that were CLEARLY in no condition to drive but were perched behind the wheel of a car boozing and smoking copious amounts of weed was terrifying.
