Waiting for a story where one of these filth come off second best, and are taught a lasting lesson -  this is both sickening and infuriating

You remind me of the following old post:

I still get tingles (nah not those "tingles in me loins" kinda tingles) whenever I think of this.

Hi guys, saw this on a Stellenbosch group today. Apparently there was a mugging of a cellphone and bike on the R44 going past Welgevonden towards Stellies.

Got to say he looks very comfortable on that S Works, good form and 1 finger braking - doesn't look like a novice to me

How to get into Stellenbosch from the north?

I might be relocating (from Gauteng) and will be staying on a farm between the R44 and R304. I would have loved to cycle to work in Stellenbosch but it seems like that might be out of the question.

Does anybody know of a possible route to get into Stellenbosch without using the R304 or R44 passing the bikejacking hotspots near Kyamandi and Cloetesville? Something to the west of Kyamandi perhaps? No matter if is a bit further to Stellenbosch then.

Kyamandi .... STAY CLEAR

Cloetesville .... a few incidents every week ... hundreds of cyclists daily. Still SUCKS !!!  But if you can link up with other cyclists for that 1km it drastically improves your safety.

Whatever you do .... DONT trust "pedestrians" along that section.

Devon Valley Rd, continue past Devonvale Golf course and JC le Roux end up entering Stellenbosch near the landfill area.

I was also thinking of this route, but please be aware that you will be off the "beaten track" and probably isolated for some time, ie. out of sight from help.

These perps are forever seeking out new "retail shopping" areas ..........

Thank you very much for all the replies. I will definitely try out the Devon Valley Rd. Looking at Google Maps, I was not sure if this route runs through private property, especially around the JC le Roux Estate. But apparently not. Thanks, guys.

Parts are private land, but access is well established. Tough commute though with that climb 😉

Devon valley rd is safe, absolutely no incidents reported as yet. There is also a 60km/h speed limit on the road which the residents adhere to. Road is narrow with no shoulders in areas, but the road is quiet. Safer than past Kayamandi or Cloetesville with all the roadwork/construction/construction vehicles.

Unfortunately there have been one or 2 incidents there as well (near the squatter camp at the dump), but yes for the most part way safer than the alternatives.

I ride that Devonvalley loop twice a week and fortunately have never had an incident there, really hoping and praying it stays that way. Sadly the Devonvalley tar descent down past the golf course is in really bad condition now with plenty of potholes so please be careful there. I've swopped to doing the loop on my gravel bike in fear of losing a rim or tyre on the road bike.

They started to patch those potholes last week. Still spotty, but less potholes.

That knife will be pretty useless against the fender of a car, or even better, the bull-bar of a passing bakkie.
