It's an old, 2008 Raleigh Marathon frame that I repainted and built up for her.

Very blue, during the race I just looked for the blueness

They are actually very nice frames, basically a crib of the Santa Cruz Superlight. The single pivot is very efficient at pedaling uphill and with a modern shock it is under rated as a base for a race bike.

am stripping and rebuilding a bike for kid#1

personalising the paint job whilst we're at it.

I've used Rustoleum paint, actually the same can that i used 18months ago for her first bike.

done two coats of the paint, all good

did a coat of the sealant, yesterday morning, all good

put on another coat this morning - oh crap!

Looks like surface prep issues to me, and maybe too much lacquer and not enough curing time / curing temp too low.

ja i thought so...start again and do it right first time. just funny how the frst coat of laquer was fine, but then this bubble came up immediately.

it does say you don't need a primer, but for me metal is too 'smooth' not to need it - more learning lessons, and the finished product will be kiffer

Always, ALWAYS use primer. Also - was the surface sanded prior to application?

Light sand. Weird thing is only in some areas. I did use done terps to get stickers off first, might have had some residue but it's only the fourth cost of all that this has happened.

Will just rub back the blistered bits and redo. It's not a Ming vase, so doesn't need to be perfect.

Knowing the frustrations of the grip-shifts, we paid in R200 for an upgrade to trigger shifters -

@ChrisF - are you planning on selling the Momsen?

My almost 6 year old is at the interim stage between needing a 20 and a 24 so I'm looking to pick up a 20 inch for him - and with trigger shifters already installed I could be interested ;-)
