  3. The Pyrenees - I never get tired of looking at them. . . . . As the title suggests, I'm going to try and fill this thread with all manner of interesting, funny and/or informative cycling related things from this beautiful part of the world and the surrounding areas. :-)
  4. I visited my LBS yesterday, and the owner mentioned he could, if I traded in my current mtb, build me up a decent bike with decent components, carbon Trinity frame, 1x11 SRAM groupset, etc. I have never heard of, or seen a Trinity frame, apart from yesterday. I tried googling, but could not find any information. Have any of you heard of this brand before? Would you recommend it?
  5. Just came across this and wondered if anyone has pulled the trigger on the One Up 50T rear sprocket and what they thought of it, what the best use would be and what an ideal trail front ring would be. I run a 30 front with a 40 (might be a 42) rear and that does find for most things. It just looks so weird and massive. Not sure if it's available locally. http://int.oneupcomponents.com/products/50t-shark-sprocket-18t-1x11 http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0573/2837/products/OneUp-Components-50T-Shark-Sprocket-Green-Front-Assembled-M700-Evil-Following-966_grande.jpeg?v=1458233146

  7. Hi All, Did my intro at the introduction section I'm a complete beginner to cycling and am looking to get a MTB to start off with. I am 1.78m tall and am doing this to get into shape and have some fun on the off road trails. Might possibly just use it also as a road bicycle just to get the fitness in during the week. Budget at the moment is R3000 Any advice on the bike to look at?
  8. For one thing is sure. Getting a sponsorship in South Africa is hard. I've had a few people asking me why I'm not sponsored yet. My results in road races has mostly been in the top 4 under 23, and the results usually show my name up with sponsored riders. My simple answer is usually that I have no idea where to start. I've been doing countless research on what sponsors are looking for, but except for results, being a good sportsman/woman and media coverage, I have no idea what else. So I would like to pose a question to sponsors: What are you looking for in sponsoring an athlete and where does one begin. Kind regards, P.
  9. Hi Folks Need some help in selecting a new saddle...I have owned a couple of FIzzik GObi's, but they keep on cracking every 2 years or so. I use to weight 120kg's , which I think played a mayor part in the cracking of the Gobi's....I have since bought it down to a respectable 94kgs. The problem is I still need a new seat, can you guys recommend me a lekker saddle for trail riding / enduro/ jumping the odd ramp or 5 ... thanks guys .. Oh yeah, budget is flexible but i don't want to spank the bank either.
  10. Good day from Cape Town I am a proud owner of a Silverback bike and would like to know if any of you guys would know where I can get my hands on a Silverback jersey in the Cape Town Area please! I would love to get my hands on one, I was told that only team riders get them by a cycling shop here, yesterday a guy passed me wearing one If the case is that only team riders get them, I'll need to up my game Hope you guys can shed some light on this topic. Thanks in advance...
  11. Hey Guys So I have an old Specialized MTB helmet that fits great and is going to be used for road use (for now). I want to start doing Enduro events here in the Western Cape and would like a helmet with more coverage. I tried on a Bell Stoker (my heads 59cm) in a Medium very strange fit compared to my helmet I have now and a Giro was very narrow i found. Cant find a Bell Super 2r Mips anywhere in CT to try on and have read the forum about stockists not thinking they would sell here. Does anyone here have one? Medium is 55-59cm and large 58-62cm. (Im 59cm) Would want a medium could always pay to post it back and swap online but trying to avoid that. Think Large will be like a fish bowl and don't like that top heavy sort of look. Would be great if I could try them on but cant. If anyone has one let me know how the MIPS ones fit? Maybe a similar style bell here in CT i could try for size? OR should I rather go for a helmet here I can try on? Have not done any Enduro events not sure if guys just all wear XC/ALL Mountain type helmets and not full face anyways. Reason I would like the full face is some added protection (even if not DHrated) as i start getting better and practicing more advanced routes.

  13. I've been running Conti's (race king) for a few years now, but the last two has let me down spectacularly. Both times the side wall failed. At R 800 to a R 1000 a pop (pun intended) I've got no further interest in using conti's. So I'm in the market for a new brand. (I've had Schwalbe before and was not impressed) I do mainly marathon type riding so longevity and rolling resistance trumps grip. But the tyre should allow for occasional rough stuff. Thanks
  14. Hi All Does anyone have any idea where i could find a GPS route from Joberg 2 Plett or George ? I'd like to try stay off as much tar as possible. Thanks.

  22. Hey Guys Gone over the whole Trance/Anthem thing way too many times. Ride on local trails around Southern Suburbs, Cape Town. Table Mountain and hopefully if Tokai opens this year there too. I'm still learning but like riding single track, more aggressive time of style and like speed. Would like to start riding out near Stellenbosch and other trails in the Western Cape. Riding a hardtail 1999 old school Trek at the moment and looking at either the Trance 27.5 2 or the Anthem 27.5 SX. The price of both seems to be in the same bracket. I'm pretty convinced the Trance is what I want. Have not test ridden either but will in the near future. My Question: The type of trails in the Southern Suburbs, Western Cape and surroundings from what i have ridden to the clips I watch on Youtube seem to be more XC type flowing single track, jeep tracks, small jumps if any. Would the Anthem not be more suited to the trails around here than the Trance? I don't race but would like to do some of the more chilled out ones in future for fun. Want to do the Argus but will buy a cheaper road bike for that when the time comes. Besides a short ride to the gym or shops this bike will be used mostly off-road on trails. Excited to learn how to wheelie, manual, jump a bit, small drop off's, bunny hop those things in riding I find more exciting then shooting up a hill to beat a record. Saying that I don't like a massive heavy bike that feels like a tank on the up's either but from what I have read the Trance is good up hill too. Any feedback based on the local trails. Trying not to convince myself I need more bike than I do. I'm one that watches a few Redbull Rampage clips and ends up riding a DH bike to gym on road haha Thanks guys

  25. Hi All, So I've always wanted to build up my own bike and of recent i have acquired all the parts to begin this dream of doing my own 'Build'. That being said, i have no idea where to begin. The issues I am facing are the removal of the crank and the changing of my cassette and hubs on the wheels that i have as i need to change the back rims hub to QR and the front to TA! The rims i have are currently the opposite sadly! I gather from youtube that i will need special tools for this operation but was wondering if anyone had any advice on where i could possibly gain help at the cheapest price? I am so stoked for the exercise and have stripped the bike down as far as i could using only my multitool, but am now at a dead end. Any advice would be appreciated, even if there is a place where i can buy tools cheaply to do this on my own? Thanks in advance, Zaid The Noob
