It's only with the first 911s that Porsche really went significantly bigger and more powerful, although the flat Boxer design still stayed. Interesting that the newest icon of that design is doing duty in the Subarus. Porsche and Subaru worked together on the new Subaru EE20 diesel engines. The boxer in the new Toyota GT86 is also a normally aspirated Scooby motor. Strangely enough Toyota has a small stake in Fuji Heavy Industries which is Subaru's parent company.
