Hope he stopped to kneel and give thanks in front of the truck driver, king of all truck drivers, who saves lives of idiot pedestrians.

Speaking as a truck driver: this driver did very well.

The truck was probably on its exhaust brakes approaching the bus anticipating the likelihood of idiot pedestrian being suicidally stupid.

The truck was probably traveling at 30-40km/h.

Modern trucks have massively powerful brakes and ABS on the horse and trailer.

ABS saves lives. I've had the same amazingly short stopping distance in one of my trucks (but it's only a 5ton truck and was empty.) it feels like you are going OTB, the nose dips that low. And every loose item inside ends up on the floor.

But yes, Philip. If this was a driver intervention, it was an incredibly good one. I think, though, that this was likely Volvo's safety system kicking in with its emergency stop feature. 

 

And yeah, the full truck and trailer braking systems are bloody superb.
