Yesterday was proper cold. I'd be glad if that was in fact the worst of what we'll have to endure.

It's also starting to get lighter sooner now. Can't wait for those extended morning commutes...

I will admit that it was "chilly" on the bike yesterday, and not so "fresh".

Things happens in a split second !!!

Stuck in traffic after a 12 hour day a commuter comes past me on his P&P bike with chopper bars, in his work clothes and no helmet .... smiling as he rides past me, clearly having a good day and enjoying the good weather .... and a chuckle at the irate drivers going nowhere in a hurry ....

As the robot changes the traffic dont move in our lane .....

Commuter either lost control due to the manhole, or swerved to avoid it .... either way, he sideswiped a new Renault and ended up on the pavement .....

Thankfully he looked okay and was walking and talking with the car owner as I passed.

I have commuted this route, though I typically avoid it due the heavy traffic and insufficient space for cyclists - just over the N1 coming down along Bill Bezuidenhout.

GLAD the cyclist is okay.

Have to feel sorry for the car owner ... excess, time without the car, higher insurance premiums, and living with a new but patched up car ....

Also got me thinking - what insurance do we as commuters have ?  Just the "personal cover" on our short term insurance ?

The section over the N1 at Bill Bezuidenhout is quite heavy in peak traffic. I ride it on my commute back home (just vice versa - I go up).

But, I am on the sidewalk and I have no worries.

In terms of insurance, I really only have insurance on my bike.

In the morning I go up Bill Bezuidenhout, mostly on the pavement.

In the afternoon I come along that same pavement, then cross the road via the footbridge.  Then via Bloemendal.

I slow down, even stop, for pedestrians on the sidewalk ... typically 1 maybe 2 per day. For the rest it is just way safer to stay off Bill Bezuidenhout.

I did my first work commute (Braamfontein from Fairland) since my accident.

Same day, same detour over NorthCliff hill but 4.5 months later!

My condition isn't too bad, so I'm very happy with the progress thus far.

Once you've commuted (for 2.5 years every day for me) and become independent of traffic or anyone (still lifting with a colleague at the moment as we rented one of our cars out) commuting becomes addictive - man I missed this :)

I'm doing a lot more pavement riding and detours on/around dangerous roads as my accident made me realise it's not worth the time saving and cars are HARD and unpredictable.

I also used to take my right of way for granted but it's also not worth the possible damage!

Enjoy and be safe out there!

I commute with a motorbike everyday day and never will i make a mistake of thinking i have right of way with these moronic car drivers on the roads... man, most of them are just far too selfish and stupid...

Like Rivonia and Sandton Drive / Katherine junction... never think because the lights are green you can proceed... the idiots just turn across in front of you and expect you to make way for them.

I just treat every car driver as a fool with a license that wants to kill you...  much easier that way

Commute to school done with a stop at Bootlegger for baby chino! Kittel bike has a puncture so we crushing like this today!

I don’t wear a helmet because if I am in a crash with the kids I would prefer to be dead than take the beating from MrsSavage. (Hoping she can’t find new threads on the hub)

:D My youngest boys' earliest life memory is of us crashing in Silvermine with him in a kidy seat on the back of my mtb. He was about 4 I think. He keeps reminding me of it and makes sure Mrs DJR reminds me periodically also. Don't think they are ever going to allow me to forget about it.

I have learnt that it is wonderfull to commute on hot summers days here in Munich but when the weather is this good the cycling paths are actually becomming a pain in the rear end.  The first 7 odd km back home is like get to a Cycle Tour start block and even out of the city you got to keep your wits with all the other "cyclists" who many of them have not flipped their Logic switches on.

LOL!! First world problems..... Complaining about cycle lanes, actually being used by cyclists....
